Last June I took my then 5 yr old dd to JIKO--we loved it, she loved it!! Wow a new place. DH was not with us and we said next trip we must take DH, well... we did...this past Friday night and it didn't disappoint!!

We had a great server, Drew. We were seated in the semi private dining area at around 7:45. We actually had 6:40 PS however DH was meeting us up there and he was running very late. The hostesses were most cooperative even though it was a very busy night-they were very accomodating. There was a line on several ocassions to check in and BOMA...well that place was HOPPING!!

Dh ordered the springs rolls or egg rolls I believe, dd (now 6) got the kid's salad and I got that delicious tomatoe, onion and cucumber salad with the watermelon dressing. DELICIOUS!! Me, not at all being adventurous after reading some of the great reviews about the filet and the monkfish...welll I decided to try the monkfish (I am so not adventurous!!), but on this night I AM GLAD I was!! It was excellent as DREW had said it would be! I enjoyed it very much!! DH had the short ribs which were also very tastey and dd had the chicken strips which folks are NOT chicken fingers but Grilled Chicken strips which she liked as well.

I also enjoy a glass of the Gamekeepers Reserve, Cabernet and DH had one of the South African beers (I don't remember which one).

This was such an enjoyable meal, service, food, dining experience. DD and I walked around prior and saw some giraffes in the savannah. It was a cool night so there were some animals around.

The one thing I learned is every now and then if you like to "play it safe" like me...try something new, you never know, you just might like it!!:teeth: :teeth:

Thanks for the review! We have a PS for our trip in December and I'm always glad to see other people have enjoyed it.

Jiko is a must do for our family as well. It is definately top notch.

Glad you enjoyed it!

YOU ALL HAVE GREAT TASTE:p:p

Capnho-we have a PS for December also! Maybe we'll see ya there:tongue:

Uncleromulus - If I remember correctly, I think it was your recent review that had me thinking of ordering the filet or the monkfish. Next time I may try the filet, but then again, where else can you get monkfish like that:p

Hopefully they'll be done the work on the pond by December (by the windows there). It was drained the other night which was kind of a bummer, because it really adds to the ambiance (can I spell?)...however this time we were seated in a separate room anyway. Last time we sat next to the window and we watched the ducks play in it, pretty cute (especially for dd).

I'm interested in how you were seated in the semi-private room.

If it's where I think it is - it's off to the right side when you first enter the restaurant - past the waiting area?

I understood this was a private room that was only available for large parties - do you know how you managed to get that room - do you think was it really busy and they opened it up to accomodate more diners?

We really enjoy Jiko's and will be there again soon.

Thanks!

Jiko is also one of our favorites!!!

Capnho & Jwfla422 - we'll be dining at Jiko on Dec 8 - maybe we'll see ya there!!!

You are probably right. Our server said they were pretty busy the night we were there. The room you mentioned is the room we were in (toward the right) past the lounge/bar area. There only seemed to be one large party in there at the time and mostly other tables of 4.

Magic 2000, I think we're going to miss you by 2 nights!! We'll be there on Friday:tongue:

Sounds great as usual! I'll be there next Monday with a large group, can't wait!
I'm sure they must split up those tables in the semi private room if they don't ahve any large parties.

Thanks - we usually go in off season so I doubt they would be using that room - but who knows?

Is the pond really under rehab until Dec? I wonder if the hurricanes affected it? It seems too soon for it to need anything done to it - especially since it's in a protected location.

Oh well, I know we will enjoy the meal anyhow. I just won't ask for a window table if the pond is "out of order".

The private room sounds great! Jiko is a favorite of ours too. I must try the monkfish next time!! I'm a big fan of the filet. Thanks for the great review!

We love jiko too............you're right, that watermelon dressing is absolutely delish!!! I had the duck spring rolls too, wonderful. Each time we dine here we are not dissapointed.

:sunny:

Rhonna- not sure how long they're working on the pond area, I would think it wouldn't be too long. Not sure what the problem was but I would have definitely asked for a seat by the window if they weren't working on it:p if it was possible. You might be right, something may have happened from one of the storms.

Muffy- I would love to try the filet next time but I know it'll be tough since I NOW know how good the monkfish is!! LOL!

Honestly I would have rather have been in the main dining room than in the private room but I was hungry so I didn't care at that point:tongue: (and thirsty:teeth: )

And thank you Daisie for clarifying that they were duck rolls..I knew they were something in the roll family!! LOL!

CPM-have a great dinner!!

Glad you liked JIKO so much. It is one of our favorite places to eat at WDW. There flatbreads are out of this world.

Gosh, yum! I can't wait to eat there as a finale to our Sunset Safari next Friday!!!

You MUST try the filet. It is incredible!! I haven't stopped thinking about it since we had it 2 years ago. November 10th PS...... I can't wait!!!

We really enjoyed Jiko in Sept 2004. We split the appetizer sampler. It had the firecracker duck rolls, tamale and 2 others I can't remember. The cucumber salad with watermelon was so good. We wished we had ordered 2 instead of sharing. I ordered the monkfish.. it was okay. However, DH ordered the filet with mac n cheese and it was great. Overall, a great place to eat.

ALL RIGHT!! THAT'S IT!! You all convinced me!! When we go in December...FILET IT IS!!!

But I do agree Ron that the flatbreads are good too:tongue:  Getting really hungry right now, darn it:p :p
