Hi all,
Trying to pack outfits for Jiko and not sure since I've read conflicting stuff on the boards. For those who have been there before does this sound like it might be ok?
Me- fancy beaded thongs (I know there are no flip flops but I am thinking it means the $2.50 Old Navy type rubber ones), khaki capris, and nice shirt
DH- jeans, sneakers, and button down shirt

Thanks!

Their objective, I think, is to ensure that folks aren't just coming in from the parks or pools. If you're changing clothing as you suggested, that's surely the direction they're asking you to go in. Folks dress differently now, so the objective is to get most everyone to dress up a bit nicer than they did before. For myself, I probably would have wore sneakers previously -- now I'll switch to dock shoes.

If you're nervous about the sandals, I think I've worn dressy sandals nearly every time we've been to a signature restaurant. What you're describing is basically exactly what FH and I wear when we go to Jiko :)

You will be fine! :)

I am sitting here drooling while remembering the meal DH & I had there last august.... It has been my favorite restaurant so far.

Hope you enjoy yourselves! :)

Jill

Thanks everyone! I already told DH if we can't get it I'll be disappointed but we can go to Boma or Mara. Stay tuned for dining report when I report! :wizard:

The cheapo's from Old Navy are OK as well as my daughter and wife both wore them on our last visit. They were clean and color coordinated and no one even looked at their feet from my persepective.

this sounds fine - when we went dining cro said jeans and a nice top, and i didn't notice people dressed any fancier than that

We were just at Jiko early in Jan. and we wore khakis and sneakers (frankly, those were the only shoes we brought!! :) ). Anyway, we were totally comfortable and would have been so in just about anything but really casual shorts and t's.

Hope that helps. You'll love Jiko, I'm sure! When we were there, I had the tilefish, which was out of this world good! My dh enjoyed his filet, as well, and my dd9 ate every last bite of her broiled salmon!!

Have a great time!

HiHi,
I agree with everyone. I think that unless the restaurant is Victoria and Albert's, the "business casual" dress code is pretty slack. As long as you're clean and casually business ;) you'll be ok :) I believe that your sandals will be absolutely fine.

I ate dinner there last week and felt very under-dressed in khaki shorts, a J. Crew solid colored shirt, and tennis shoes. (We had just come from the park.) I had packed jeans and a nicer blouse, but never actually got around to putting them on. UG says it's casual. Would have felt better about myself if I'd dressed up just a bit. Oh well. Food was outstanding and service was excellent.

oxfordcircus, you must have hit a one in a million night. We've been there many, many times and I wouldn't feel out of place in my underwear most nights! :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

Maybe we were just self conscious because we were there with our three kids (7, 4, and 1), who behaved remarkably well, but even so... party:
