Jewelry Shopping in Nassau

Can anyone recommend a place to shop for jewelry in Nassau?I've heard you can find some good deals here but I've also heard Nassau is pretty nasty so that, combined with the fact we might do the stingray excursion so we may not have a lot of time to wander around on our own, leads me here to get some advice. I would be looking for gemstone jewelry.

We've liked Columbian Emerals, but make sure it's the one on the Disney Shopping guide. There are shops with similar names. You'll learn about which shops are in the guide in a talk they give on board.

We liked the Jewelry Mart, got great deals on both things purchased, they are willing to deal and are not pushy! Nassau is not nasty, It is a poor country, but not as poor as Jamacia, anyway, be smart, and keep an eye on your bags, No matter what you do to prepare for excursions they will know you are a vacationer and from a ship. they know when you dock and when you are to be back to the ship. Enjoy the experience

I entered most of the jewelry stores on the main street and found some bargains and some not. One shop not willing to negotiate, some were. Overall, the insides of the shops are fine MANY clerks all willing to help and NO TAX!

I recently went on a Halloween cruise to Nassau..I browsed in at least 10 jewelry stores while there, and wound up buying a gorgeous sapphire ring on the ship..I found the ship offered a much better deal than the local stores.. All of the stores (even the duty free ones) seemed to be charging "tourist" prices!

That was kind of obnoxious of me to call Nassau nasty. Seriously.
Anyway, will I need to take a taxi to get to the main drag of stores or is it within walking distance of port?

When you're in Nassau, there are a number of shops within walking distance of the ship.
