Jets trainer trips Miami player!

I know that you are not equating this to drunk driving, but come on.

I already said that he deserves to be punished, and I have no sympathy for him if he gets fired, but this is not as big a deal as some posters are making it out to be. If you knew the kind of stuff that goes on on every play, especially at the bottom of piles, you might have a slightly different perspective. But this was caught on camera, so this guy is going to get slammed.

How about you "come on?" The MAJOR difference here is that it was not at the 'bottom of a pile', it was not the kind of thing that 'goes on on every play', for God's sake man, the guy on the sidelines was not IN THE GAME.

An opposing player punching your a$$ at the bottom of a pile is far different than being assaulted by a bystander who's not in the game.

I see no MAJOR difference, in fact I see no difference at all. A cheap shot is a cheap shot. He isn't a bystander, he is a coach which is a member of the "team". And if you watched the postgame interviews from the locker room you can see many players commenting that things like this do happen all the time, they just aren't caught by the cameras.

You lost me at "assaulted"... :sad2:

"Lost" ya, huh?

Should I type slower?

I doubt it would help, as I spell the word "tripped" in a completely different way than you ("assaulted" just looks different to me - different letters - you from some other country, perhaps?).

I bet if a career ending injury had been suffered, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to imagine we would hear the word "assault" being thrown around.

The penalty for tripping, (leg whip), is a personal foul, 15 yards. So, what you are saying is we will probably not see the NFL issue anything more harsh than this? Since it happens all the time, and it's no big deal?

Oh, and I'm not from some other country, did you really think I was? And I think I'll refrain from all the cute little "eye roll" emoticons.

UPDATE

The Jets Coach has been suspended for the rest of the season.

I think that's a fair penalty and hopefully he'll learn from this going forward.

I'm glad the coach was suspended.

When I was watching the game last night, I couldn't help but laugh because it was such a bonehead move and I couldn't believe it. What will the Jets do next???

And he was fined $25,000 by the Jets - OUCH!
I guess it's better than being fired, but wow, they are making an example out of him for sure.

The head strength and conditioning coach in the NFL averages $200K per year, an assistant can make between $60-$150K. $25K is a pretty stiff fine especially considering the fines that have been handed out to players who are making millions of dollars per year. Additionally with a lock out looming for the 2011 season he most likely will be permanently unemployed, as these coaches typically sign a yearly contract, once this season is up he is done and since he is suspended for the remainder of the season he is unemployed as of today.

Terrible time of year to take a big fine and lose your job. His kids just don't get it, though. I saw one of them asking for a XBox on an Angel Tree.

GMA continues to update the story today including the trainers comments/response to all of this, if anyone is interested in watching.
