We originally booked our flights as non stop.
They have since been changed to a 1 stop over flight.
Jetblue kept the seats the same. Here in lies the problem....
The new flight is on a different size plane. We had seat c and d in row 4, these being on a plane that had 2 seats on each side of the row. Myself had a seat behind my wife and 6 yr old son.
The changed flight is on a bigger plane that has 3 seats to each side of the plane. Seats C and D now are on different sides of the aisle. I am still in the row behind.
We cannot have a 6 yr old on different sides of the aisle or sitting a row back.
The reservation people kept telling me that they are next to each other. I tried to explain that they were on different sides of the aisle.

As they kept the same seats we were put in the extra leg room section.
Even though we were already in the extra leg section they would not move my son next to either me or my wife without charging for the extra leg room seats. They would move us to the back of the plane which I declined as unacceptable.

Now when I booked these seats, I chose them wanting to be in the front of the plane. I did not want the back and I already conceded the change from nonstop to a 1 stop flight.
I was finally transferred to a supervisor and after explaining my situation she agreed that the seating arrangment was unacceptable. I told her that the only thing I was looking for was to have my son next to atleast one of us.
She went ahead and moved all 3 of us to the same row and side of the plane in row 3.

Even though I had to go through a supervisor, the end result was great and all the staff I spoke with were polite and reasonable.

It's great that JetBlue was able to work with you, but if you don't mind my asking - why couldn't your six year old sit a foot and a half away from one adult, in the exact opposite/even seat?

If they were sitting together he would get the aisle seat with my wife sitting in the middle.
For a kid that age that is a huge boundary. Not only are we protective but we expect a certain level of behavior from him. On a 2-3 hr flight you cannot expect a small child to be an angel the whole time. We can keep him much more manageable with him next to us. which means other people will benefit as well.
Who is going to look out for him while people are stuffing and removing items out of the overhead compartment? Kind of hard when someone is in the way messing around in the overheads.

Bottom line is we feel more comfortable with him sitting next to atleast one of us.
