Jetblue - Terrible boarding

You are allowed 1 carryon and 1 personal item. The personal item should not be too large to fit under the seat. I've people put a rollaboard in the overhead plus their laptop bag. The laptop bag should go under the seat.

I totally agree about the oversized bags. I was on a USAir flight this morning where a guy shoved an oversize bag into the overhead around the middle of the plane and then walked to the back. The flight attendent came along and the door would not close. She asked who it belonged to and made him take it out. He took it with him to the back, I'm not sure what he did with it. She should have forced him to check it.

Just a couple comments...
When traveling alone (without my kids) I never board until the last minute. I would much rather spend my time in the terminal than on the warm, crowded airplane. So personally...I don't care who boards when. Even when traveling with my kids (10,11) we wait until the last minute.

It has been "my" observation that the business fliers on an airplane are also very much to blame for the carry on bag rule breaking. I often see business people who tend to fly for an overnight or two, bring a small suitcase (with wheels) and stowe that overhead. The they usually have either a laptop/briefcase/backpack that they put in front of them.

My personal opinion is that when the airlines stop losing luggage, damaging luggage, or putting it on the wrong plane then the passengers will be more inclined to check their luggage.

I can speak from experience on this, as my VERY FREQUENT Flier hubby finally got fed up with having to wear the same suit 3 days in a row after airlines losing his luggage-that he went out and bought the largest sized carry on bag allowed. Now, unless a trip last for more than 3 days, he won't check a bag.

Um... even if everyone adhered to the size/limit rule the overhead bins still would not be enough space for all onboard.Since no one else can use the space under YOUR seat, one could logically deduce that the under the seat bins should be used first and then the overhead bins as overflow.

I'm sorry that airline seats dont offer you the legroom you feel you need. However, that doesnt make it ok for you to take up space that others need either. We all feel cramped, but we deal with it or fly buisness class/first class.

The sense of entitlement for everything these days just boggles my mind!
OK Here is what I am entitled to, the same as everyone else. That includes being able to use the overhead. When I travel I have 1 small rolling bag, less then 15 inches, which goes in the overhead. My wife has the same bag and the children have backpacks which they put under the seats. I choose to use the little leg room for my feet, so I only bring one bag.

Lets think about the average narrow body aircraft, 3 seats each side and enough room in the overhead for 3 bags assuming they are not oversized.
there is enough room for everyone, if the rules where applied.
I ask for no more or less then anyone else, but I refuse to sit with a bag under my seat for 3 hours because someone needed to pack a 50 inch carryon. Entitlement NO, fairness for all YES

(from the original poster) I forgot to mention that a couple next to me did not know that their flight was changed to an hour later until they got to the airport (I found out the day before my trip to Orlando when I tried to print my boarding pass - both ways was changed). Anyway, due to the late take off they were getting nervous about catching their connecting flight at Kennedy for Boston. While in the air we told the stewardess about they have to run off the plane so an announcement was made that whoever has a connecting flight (hence the people next to me) are to leave first. People still got up. I got up to block the people in back of us (we were in row 10) and they ran to the front of the plane to get their overhead items (they had a handbag and coats under the seat) and ran through the airport. When I disembarked I did see they boarding the next flight with only 10 minutes to spare.

From the other posters I do remember see one kid with a skateboard and also one of the families who had a stroller and several bags also had a queen size comforter.

Back in September I went with my mother to buy a new suitcase. I wanted to make sure that it was smaller that the allowed size and when I pack I use space bags which help. Also the outfit I wear going to Orlando is the same one I wear returning. Shirts I wear more than once. I utilize the washing machine at OKW or use the sink in the room. Also I use the DVC bag that you get when you become a member. The DVC bag goes under my seat and the suitcase overhead.

I do plan on contacting Jetblue. Especially to complain about the way they handled the handicap people. I had originally thought that it was only the people who did the boarding at JFK who were a mess and made it seem like it was their first time on the job. But the same boarding and mess appeared at Orlando.

Back in October Jetblue did such a professional job in their boarding which is why I was a returned passenger.

Any other horror stories out there?

We fly JetBlue and although their specialty seems to be tossing your checked in luggage relentlessly back and forth at one another (I know I saw them). The boarding of the planes is always very quick and proficient with children and individuals with disabilities encouraged to pre board before everyone alse or at least that’s what we observed whenever we fly them.

Well, no, not necessarily. Each overhead compartment spans more than one three-seat row. For example, I was on a Song flight last week, in the front cabin. There are seven rows of three seats on one side of the plane and eight rows of three seats on the other. But there are only four overhead compartments on each side of the plane. That's 45 passengers and eight overhead bins which, when used correctly (wheels-in) each hold three standard carry-ons, or 24 pieces of luggage. And by 'standard carry-on', I mean the small rolling suitcases that will fit in the airline's test-frame.

I was about to say the same thing. If you divide the number of passengers by the number of overhead bins, you get 5.625 pieces of luggae per bin. Round it up to 6 for an even number.Since a bin only holds 3 regulation pieces, the it means that 3 of the 6 passengers using the bin dont get overhead space, even if every passenger only has 1 carry on each.So no there isnt room for everyone to use an overhead bin.

But i guess some folks are more important than others, huh?

The real problem is that the general public tends to be rude no matter where they are these days. It doesn't seem to matter where you are, rudeness abounds. I always laugh with my husband at the people cutting you off and rushing to their cars after church. Unfortunately, it's everywhere...:(

We travel a lot and I find the Orlando flights a bit more harried than most. Personally I think many of the people flying to MCO aren't very travel savvy and this contributes to the problem....JMO

Yes some people are more important, thank you for not putting your bag in the overhead bin, you are much nicer than the average person. I on the other hand will continue to use the bin which the airline has provided for my use.

How is JetBlue? What drawbacks do they have? Are they the airline that doesn't let you reserve seats when you book?

You mean the just slightly more than one-sixth of the overhead bin which the airline has provided for ANY one passenger's use.

Hey Terry!!! JB is a good airline. I flew them home from WDW in Dec. Had no problems whatsoever. Really liked them. For our May trip, I booked dh and dd on JB from Logan to MCO (I fly in 36 hrs before them). JB does seem to be messing a bit with their flights...something I didn't think they did. I booked dh/dd on a direct flight at $79 pp (one way), but about 3 weeks later that 7 pm flight changed to a 4:55 flight with a connection in JFK, arriving at MCO at the same time as the original flight...and they cranked the fare to $239, then lowered it to $199 where it is now!!!
I'm waiting to book JB for my Dec trip. I loved Song but that's just not an option anymore. I think you'll like JB...Karen loves it!

My parents will be flying Jetblue in May and I hope they do not have the same headaches that I did. I just hope that the boarding improves. Remember when you first board ask for a headphone. I forgot this last time and I had to scramble to the front to get one. They finally came around after the plane took off, but when I was boarding they already had the tv stations ready to use.

So if I want my stuff from my carry on I need to put it in front of me. I am lost, I take my one bag on board get out what I need and then have to sit with the bag in front of me? WHY. The aircraft has overhead bin for a reason. I paid for the seat just like everone else.

Yes, you are suppose to sit with it in front of you if it fits and does not block someone sitting next to you or yourself from getting up and walking in case of an emergency. The overhead bins are for large items (listen to what the flight attendant says - she specifically states this).
