JetBlue recommends arriving 3 hours early to MCO?

We recently flew home from MCO on Jetblue. The line for security and bag checks were completely nuts. We did carry on only and have TSA precheck and sailed right through.

A woman made the flight just as a flight attendant was closing the doors. She asked if the plane could be held for her friend who was stuck in the security lane. The flight attendant chuckled and said, "Sure, we'll get right on that..".

My mother-in-law wants to travel with us to Orlando in the fall. We just booked her appointment to get TSA precheck.

While the flight attendant should not have reacted in that matter I find it amazing how many people will show up really close to a flight, and than can't believe they missed a flight. I do not fly very often, but last year flying to Disney flew on a Friday evening (HUGE mistake), and saw several instances of this on just my flight. One lady was screaming demanding to speak to a Supervisor as our plane was pulling away from the gate. Where are they supposed to come from, the overhead compartment?

The TSA claims it will not make the lines longer. As long as people pay attention and follow directions, it should add minimal time.

People pay attention to instructions at airports? I often see people who don't seem to have traveled since pre-9/11. They have no idea what to do and can't understand why they can't bring their water through security. Oh-and they're also deaf (or at least they can't hear the TSA agents yelling rules).

So do you think everyone should use an earlier DME time? We are flying Southwest home (which is not in the effected gate) and will be picked up the standard 3 hrs before. We have lots of luggage to check. Do you think we should leave earlier???

We are flying Southwest and don't plan to, based on everything I've been reading. As mentioned, JetBlue makes this recommendation solely due to the construction on the tram that leads to their gates. Security back-ups are nothing new at MCO and I can't imagine the new electronics requirement will have a significant impact.
