ok I've been listening to how with SW and Delta if you book a flight and the price on that flight drops you can just easily get a credit for the difference through them at no extra cost?. What about jetblue?

The prices went down on my wanted flight down to mco today with jetblue
but the return home flight is still really high. Not sure what to do where the jetblue rates have been fluctuating so much

yes, you can get credit just by calling 800-JET-BLUE. it can be just one of the flights as well (ex: one goes down and the other goes up, you get a credit on the one that went down)

Keep in mind that a $30 fee per ticket may apply for changing to the lower fare.

JetBlue doesn't charge a change fee when the price drops. They give you a credit good for one year.

Is this a new policy? I paid the fee to change for a lower fare 2 years ago. This is actually one of the reasons we lean towards Southwest lately because they do not charge to re-book for a lower fare.

i've never been charged a change fee for a price decrease since i started flying with them in late 2005, and there almost always is a decrease.

if you cancel a flight and opt to rebook it at the lower rate, you pay the penalty.

From the JetBlue website:

Changes and cancellations may be made prior to the scheduled departure for a
fee of $30 per person plus any applicable difference in airfare. Save $5 when
changing or canceling your reservation online.

The $30 is deducted from the amount you would be given as a credit. Is it possible that people didnt notice the fee was taken out of the credit? I definitely had the fee deducted from my credit when I changed for a lower fare around Sept. 05.

nope. a credit is neither a change nor a cancellation.

i've actually gotten a $5 credit before (meaning the price literally dropped by $5 and i called to take it cuz why the heck not?), which would mean they'd charge me $25 if that were the case.

Unlike Delta, JetBlue does NOT consider a fare change to be the same as a flight change. I don't think I have ticket records going back to 9/05 (although that fall I was using Song one way and JetBlue the other for several trips), but in 2006 and through last month - the last time I called for a fare reduction - there was no penalty/charge just to be credited for lower fares on unchanged flights.

I have been reading a lot of old posts in which people mention getting credits for lower fares. It seems that all of them call the 800 number to get this. When I got a credit back in 2005, I used the website since it said I would save $5 of the fee ($25 instead of $30) if I made the change on line.

I am assuming the credit can be given by a rep on the phone only. I cannot find anywhere on the site that they do this, so it may not be an official policy.

to be honest, i don't see how you can get a credit directly on the website. you have to call for it as far as i know. what you might have done was canceled and rebooked at the lower rate, that would have penalized you (for canceling).

i guess depending on how you book it with SWA, you can cancel and rebook without penalty, but JB you need to call.

I'm not sure how JetBlue handles it, but many major airlines surely do consider a fare change to be a change, and do assess the change fee.

Just did it 2 days ago. Our August fare went down, called JetBlue and was issued a credit to my JetBlue account towards next flight(not credit card refund).

I too have received credits from JetBlue when the fare drops. You must call the 1-800 number to get the credit. There is NO charge or fee for this.
