the title pretty much says it all. I'm looking at leaving from Burlington Vt instead of Montréal to save money (we're talking hundreads of dollars), and I am debating what to take.

US airway is dirth cheap, but jetblue does seem to be more family friendly. We will be a family of 5, my eldest will be barely 6 years old and my youngest 2.

Is jetblue worth the extra money (that is still cheaper than leaving from Montréal)? We're talking about a 500$ price difference.

It's your money; only you can decide.
jetBlue has televisions at each seat; United may or may not have movies.
jetBlue allows one free checked bag per ticketed passenger; United charges for every checked bag.
If the nonrefundable fare drops on your exact itinerary and you call jetBlue, they'll credit the difference to your TrueBlue account (and it's good for a year and fully transferable); United will charge you $150 per ticket for any change to a nonrefundable fare.

Only you can decide with your money. For my money, jetblue hands down! Love, love, LOVE the tvs, especially for the kids!!!

Yes, the TV realy makes me want to go with Jetblue, and also T5 looks so much less complicated than usual terminals, for the layover. Having 3 young kids, I want peace of mind.

But the price difference is huge. I tought Jetblue was supposed to be the cheapest major airline?

I have never flown any of them. I have used Air Canada (never again!) and air transat.

Can't help you there. Again, you need to determine if jetBlue is worth the extra money.

It is for me. I'm flying cross-country in a few weeks. When I bought the ticket, it was about $100 more than the lowest legacy airfares. I factored in the free checked suitcase which brought the difference down to a mere $40. Then I considered that jetBlue offers the only nonstop flights on the itinerary I want. Those two considerations made jetBlue an easy decision for me - I bought the ticket.

Last week, the fare for my trip dropped $40 temporarily. I now have that credit to apply to another trip. That's me, and my money. Your mileage may vary.

I can't speak from experience, but we have our first Jetblue flight booked for Nov. and while I was happy with the initial price - flying out of Syracuse instead of Ottawa was much cheaper. Just got off the phone as the price of both legs had dropped. Got a $195 credit to use in the future - we have 5 travellers. :cool1:

Jet Blue Hands down! We have flown US Air and it is very very noisy. Jet Blue has Televisions at every seat. You can rent movies to watch during your flight as well. They also offer snacks. You can also request more legroom seats.
Good luck and enjoy your vacation.

Re: requesting the Extra Legroom seats. It's an upgrade for which passengers can pay (the same price, either in advance or on the plane) but the sears are closely monitored by the Flight Attendants. At least according to policy, no free upgrades and no moving to those sears without paying. Actual practice may be different, of course.

I don't think that is always true. Fares vary by airport and dates. You are comparing two different airports. If there is competition at an airport, fares will be lower. No competition, higher. I don't know that I would even call Jet Blue a "major airline". They are not near the size of the legacys or Southwest.

US airways is 1500$ for the 5 of us, luggages non included, and Jetblue is 1800$ luggages included.

USAir appears to be $25 per bag. Assuming 2 bags (which is what I pack for our family of 4), that is $100 roundtrip for baggage; so you are at $200. Are the flight times comparable? For us, JetBlue is nonstop whereas USAir would be a layover. If both are layovers, is one longer than the other? Does one flight arrive significantly earlier/later than the other? Do you incur extra charges to rental car? If ME, look at pickup times? Would one leave or arrive so early or late that you would have to add a hotel stay at the home airport? (sometimes this actually works in your favor, as you can leave your car at the hotel lot cheaper than the airport lot!) I also look at what time I have to be up & at airport for flight. Then I decide what the "actual" difference in price is & if I am willing to pay that price. This is my thought process as I choose my fare, hope it helps. Good luck choosing!

All airplanes are noisy. I'm not sure why you think JetBlue's planes are not as noisy.

I would probably go with JetBlue.
