Jet slides off runway at Midway airport

An 8 year old boy has died from injuries suffered in this. He was in one of the cars not on the plane.

Our local news just said a 6 year old died, who was in a car with 2 adults and 2 other children. They believe it was one family but not confirmed yet.

That is scary. I remember the same sort of thing happened at the Burbank airport a couple years ago. The plane broke through the airport barriers and went onto the streets stopping just short of a gas station. Imagine your standing there filling your tank and look up to see a plane pulling in next to you!! :earseek: I don't remember why that happened then, but I'm sure weather was not a factor. Just one more reason why I hate to fly.

That was a Southwest plane as well.

The plane would not have landed unless ATC (Air Traffic Control) gave it clearance to land. There will be much speculation but my best guess would be that they overshot due to poor visibility and landed too far down the runway and with the weather conditions they couldn't stop in time.

They have confirmed that 6-year-old boy died. He was in a vehicle that was either hit by or hit the plane. How horrible! And just before Christmas too :(

Here is Southwest's update:

Just heard on the news that 32 years ago on the same day, a United Airlines flight going to Midway crashed into a home and killed 42 people!

Yeah, got to love how the reporters compare this to a horrific plane crash.
