Jet Blue is offering free rebooking on flights purchased now through the end of March.

But, I bought mine before the rebooking guarantee went into effect, and it doesn’t seem to apply to past bookings.

I knew it was non-modifiable and non-refundable when I bought it. But that was before coronavirus was closing things. My state’s first case of COVID19 was just announced last night, and it’s at the hospital where I work. I’m not that worried about being sick, but I do worry I might be quarantined in May.

Any thoughts on if Jet Blue will amend their policy to allow modifications on all previous tickets? I realize the new policy is intended to spur confidence in new sales, but it seems like a crappy way to treat existing customers.

We booked with Jetblue months ago too. Going end of March. We are considering driving. DH will call his doctor Monday to see what he says (medical issues/heart).

They should waive fees all flights through end of March.

Update: I did a live chat to see if they would open the no fee thing to all booked flights. I did not get an answer but the agent canceled my reservation as a courtesy and issued a travel voucher.
If I rebook now, I’m unsure how that works with Blue Basic. Agent said it would not be modifiable, but the announcement says no cancel fees period. So maybe that means I could cancel for a new voucher? Will have to clarify later.

In the meanwhile, I found out the voucher is good for a year from issue to book, but not to complete travel, and can be used for anyone, not just the people named on the reservation. This policy seems more liberal than Southwest’s policy, though SW is more generous with issuing vouchers in the first place.

I booked months ago for flights from Newark, NJ to Tampa, FL for 8/12 to 8/25. I called last night. They let me cancel. No problem. Going to wait it out.

Was this JB? Did they give you a refund or a travel voucher?

My wife booked a flight to Boston months ago for a conference on JetBlue at the end of March and the conference was canceled last week. At first they wanted to charge her the $150 change fee (for a $153 flight) but another representative got on the line and waived that fee. She was issued a voucher.

We will have to decide soon - fly or no fly.

Regardless what we do, I know we will be overly cautious even on land.......I have read a few different articles that say it's safe to go swimming (three out of 4). Now I am wondering if we will even go in the pool......it's all a bummer. It is what it is.

Due to evolving coronavirus concerns, we are extending the suspension of JetBlue change and cancel fees for all new flight bookings made between March 6, 2020 and March 31, 2020 for travel through September 8, 2020.

We booked in mid February for our trip down Easter weekend. Still deciding as we are both over 60. Planned to wait a couple more weeks but will expect a refund if we decide to cancel.

I've been following this closely. I know some will defend them (along with Delta and United) for being a business, but I think it's ridiculous that they claim safety is their top priority, yet are only allowing the waive of fees if you booked between mid February and March. Clearly, bookings are down, and this is their way of getting people to book. That's all well and good, but to claim you care about the safety of the passengers and then refuse to waive any fees for those that purchased their tickets BEFORE the whole thing started makes absolutely ZERO sense. If anything, those that bought before and had no knowledge of what was to come should have the fees waived.

I had purchased tickets for a one-way, March JB flight back in mid-December but due to having to re-configure our spring break trip, I needed to re-book that ticket and purchase another one. I guess I could have called to see if they would make an exception, but I ended up cancelling the ticket and purchasing two, new tickets. The new tickets were incredibly cheap compared to what I am used to for spring break trips, so, while I didn't like eating the $200 fee, my overall costs were certainly better than what they have been in the past. Plus my new tickets now fall within the no fee category.

They won't give you a traditional refund like say back to your credit card. The money goes into a travel bank as a credit and you have a year to use it. With JB I believe you just have to book within that year and not have started and or completed travel (some airlines require you trip to have started an or be completed with in a year). As of right now if you booked outside the current policy window you will may not get it all back, they take the change fees off the top. For those that booked inside the window they get everything back with no change fees taken off. Some people who booked out side the current policy window have reported getting everything back with no fees charged.

Check and see if they have changed your flights at all. I booked in Jan outside the current policy window but they changed my flight time (for a July flight) by over an hour, they actually moved the flight number to a different flight 2 hours earlier, and moved me to another flight. When I asked what my options were they said they would re-book me to a different flight (free) or refund the entire amount I paid into a travel bank. I took the travel bank as flights had gone way down and I re-booked.

Hope it works out for you.

I'm glad they finally changed the policy. It made absolutely no sense before.
Well, it made financial sense in that they have your money already and want to hang onto it. The waiver fees were to encourage new bookings.

However, from a customer service perspective, it was clearly stating “we care more about your money than your wellbeing.” And while that’s probably true of most companies, it’s best not to be too obvious about it.

I find it interesting that they’re not yet extending the change policy past April. If you booked for May or beyond, the old policy is still in effect. I assume it’s to cut down on rebooking for just getting better prices this summer, but allows for changes if your current trip get canceled. If the COVID19 outbreak continues, they can extend the free rebooking window then.

So my flights are now $300 cheaper per person. We are still planning on going, so I'm considering cancelling & re-booking. My only worry is that they are issuing the refunds as travel vouchers/credits rather than a monetary credit back to the CC we booked on. Has anyone been able to get them to do cash credits?

If you purchased nonrefundable tickets, everything you paid goes into a travel bank for your reuse under the airline's restrictions. It would make less than no business sense to refund any revenue.

If you purchased refundable tickets, then yes, of course you would get (all) your money back. You could then rebook on jetBlue, or another airline, or not at all.

If you are not planning to fly again within the designated time, just leave your tickets as is.

That all makes sense - I guess I'm okay having the travel voucher for a future time.

Does anyone have any history with cancelling flights book with Jet Blue that were purchased using points? Do you get the points back, or is it a credit via the travel bank aslo?

Edit: I do not believe that we purchased refundable flights, but they were purchased using a Jet Blue Plus card and they fall within this cancellation fee waiver period.
