Jet Blue Flight Attendant -JFK

I was a passenger on that flight.

I can tell you that there was not an altercation at the end of the flight about staying seated. There were several people who got up when we got to the gate (or so we thought) but everyone sat back down without any conflict that I was aware of.

Steven Slater had the cut on his head before we left Pittsburgh. He was standing by me and another FA asked him if he was alright.

My own impression of him was that something was not right. When he came through the cabin to offer beverages he was very haphazard and passed a lot of people by. That could be explained by the bump on his head but it could also have been due to any drinking that he may have done.

I can tell you that he was very sweet to a little girl who was throwing up behind me. He got her some animal crackers and ginger ale (which was not part of the in-flight service-our flight had express service which is very limited selections of food and snack).

I did see him flounce (for lack of a better term) onto the jetway and then go back into the galley cursing under his breath but I was already off the plane when he made his announcement and exited so dramatically. The only reason that I knew there was a blow up was because one of the passengers at the baggage claim was asking me what happened with him. :confused3

Neato! (that you were there). HAve you been approached by any news outlets for info/interviews?

I tell ya, I think JetBlue should hire him back and offer flights with the "Baggage-Nazi" (which I heard he called himself). It could be like the soup-Nazi! I'd fly with him (and I hate flying). He'd keep his flight no-nonsense and would run a tight ship. Love to see how he handles unruly passengers or screaming kids.

He did not delay our flight but I am sure that he delayed the flight after us. It was a neat thing for him to jump out of the plane on the slide, I am sure that he greatly inconvenienced many people that day by taking the plane out of commission (for all intents and purposes).

No one has asked me for an interview except for the Port Authority police. Since I didn't see anything other than his acting a bit weird on the flight I don't think that the news outlets would be too interested in speaking to me.

It seems there may be some revelations yet to come that could explain the behavior. In any case, this thread has brought to light that flight attendants and other people who serve the traveling (and non-traveling) public are routinely subjected to abuse from passengers/customers. My feeling is we need to be less tolerant of rude and bad behavior. I still think the parachute option is a good one. :upsidedow

Something that happened to me in Starbucks today highlighted to me the problem with people's attitudes towards working folk. My cup didn't have room for milk, so I poured it into the trash. In doing so, I spilled some of it on the counter, so I got a napkin to wipe it up. The young lady next to me commented that people get paid to do that. I'm thinking if everyone left things for the "people paid to do that" by the time they do, someone might slip, fall, stain their clothes, whatever. It didn't take me much effort to clean up after myself, so why not?

It has been mentioned that maybe Slater had been drinking before the flight, but if that were the case, wouldn't someone have smelled it on him?
