Jet Blue Baggage Question

When we leave to go to the world, there will be 4 of us. We will each have our own suitcase that we will be checking in.

I am confused, though, with the the carry on requirements. Can we each also take 1 carry on as well? The carry on lugguage size is specifically for carry on purposes and will fit in the overhead bins, but I am concerned they will consider this as a 2nd piece of luggage.

Each person is allowed 1 carry on and one personal item. A carry on has specific weight and size requirements (as outlined on the carrier's website). A personal item is a purse, notebook case, etc and should fit fully under the seat in front of you (if you're in bulkhead or exit row, assume the same size requirements, but you'll need to place your item in the overhead bins).

All of that said, often times there is not enough room to fit all the carry-on luggage in coach only planes (or in the coach section of a plane), and people will be asked to gate check their carry-on. There is no cost in doing this, but you will need to leave your luggage at the gate and wait for it to be delivered at your destination (including intermediate destinations on your way to your final destination).

Side note, although allowed, I always like to remind people to look at the amount of luggage/clothes/stuff they are bringing, and do you really need a checked piece of luggage for each person (longer trips - greater then 10 days are somewhat of an exception)? My partner and I can pack all of our items in one large suitcase for a week stay and then just carry on a backpack that has our DSLR and my notebook computer case.
