Jet America cancelled my flight

This is how I felt yesterday :scared::mad:

They called my mom at home & told her my flight to Orlando (Melbourne) had been cancelled. I fly out in less than a month. They are only offering to let me rebook the flight at my original price $50 RT. & waive luggage fees.

I am going to be gone 10 days, did they think I had nothing planned?!? :sad1:

They told my mom I could re-book on the 1st of aug & fly out the 14th of aug. what they failed to tell her. Flights to Melbourne don't start til the 15th. They run two days a week & only one flight each day. Oh & their only schedule til Oct 31. So the chances are *very slim* that if I fly with them again i'll even be able to get a seat on the flight. :scared:

They are supposed to be refunding my money, but it will take 2 weeks.
Oh, & they announced this a week ago. Didn't send me an email & we're late giving me a follow up call.

Thankfully I was able to book with NWA for only $140 last minute. I fly out the night of the 7th (instead of morning of the 8th)

I don't think I will be flying with Jet America after their customer service. They also told my mom that I could contact them at their website. No e-mail. No phone number. They do have a number on their website, i'll be calling today. But no e-mail ? That's kinda wack!

Unfortunately these situations are more common on smaller carriers, and as all carriers enter into survival mode, these situations will only increase.

Sorry you are late to the party.... this airline has not even taken off yet and don't hold your breath that the option to "fly with Jet America" will EVER happen!

Now, I am sorry but you paid WHAT? $50??? And you want "customer service" :lmao: Exactly HOW were they suppose to pay for that? For $50 Round Trip they can't even afford to fly you to "Orlando" much less provide service! (Which is why they aren't taking off!)

Seriously, this is just "Skybust" in another color. Expecting a different outcome with the same "model" :happytv:

And since when is "Melborne" the same as "Orlando"???? Only in the world of "fly by night" airlines!:confused3

Many us doubt if anyone will be flying with Jet America, ever. I can't picture enough passengers will be willing to pay fares high enough to compensate for passengers who booked money losing fares like your Mom's $50 R/T.

edited to add--I'm glad they don't accept email. It makes no sense to accept email if you don't have the money to pay someone to answer the email.

Carol--I suspect Jet America will be different then Skybust. Skybus flyed for a number of months. I doubt Jet America will ever fly.

The thing with Jet America is there are only 9 seats on each flight with $9 fares. The other 180 seats match Southwest prices. I just happened to be one of those to get a flight that was $9.

They haven't taken air yet, & I don't expect them too, but no matter what I pay I expect customer service. I do it everyday & everyone gets treated the same.

Well not based on what I see. I just put in random dates. No I can't get $9, but the "High" fare was $49:lmao: SW's "high" is considerably higher.

Here's you other issue. Business travelers who PAY those high fares and make the "el cheapo" possible on OTHER airlines don't think that "Melborne" is the same city as "Orlando". SkyBust tried to convince folks that "St. Augustine" was "Orlando" Where will it end? Fly into Savannah and call it "Orlando" ?????:rotfl2:

Seriously I can't find a fare on this "airline" for more then $59..... :rotfl: Why in the world would ANYONE think that this airline will even survive, much less expect "Customer Service"

Sorry, but your "rant" doesn't convince me. You picked an unknown, start up airline for ONE reason "CHEAP!" Now acting like you care about customer service is a little late. The DIS board is full of "rants" but when it comes time to book, what wins is "CHEAP" :rotfl:

stavythatgirl: You have my condolences. I too purchased a ticket on Jet America and am feeling even worse about it since all of the replies to my thread were like "how foolish can you be?".

All we can do is hope and know that sometimes things work out for the best.

Don't feel bad. You took a calculated risk to purchase ridiculously low fares on an airline that hadn't yet begun to fly. Here are some reasons why the super duper $9 fare doesn't work in the long run:

It costs anywhere from $4700 to $6400 per hour (average) to operate single aisle jet aircraft. Think 737, A319, A320. Widebodies and dual aisles are higher ($7500 to $16000). That's figuring in the cost of the crew, fuel (about 55% to 60% of the hourly cost!), insurance, taxes, maintenance and, for simplicity's sake, the monthly 'car payment' on that aircraft to the lessor. Multiply that figure by the length of the flight and divide it by the number of seats available minus the number of non revenue seats available and other reserved seats. That figure represents the portion of your fare directly attributable the cost of flying that plane only. It doesn't include the cost of ground crew, gate agents, airport rents, baggage handling. Those are all real costs that airlines must bear to continue flying every single day. It's a capital-heavy industry and if the revenue isn't there it's impossible to continue (or, in JetAmerica's case, begin) flying.

I just read your entire thread and I don't see anyone calling you foolish. They are saying these things can happen, especially with a start up airline that is charging less than they can make on the flight. It is a model destined for failure.

Everyone is trying to stretch their budgets these days, I know every poster you had on this and the other thread know that, BUT, the people who have responded know what they are talking about........

I hope all works out.....

By the way, OP, great $140 price on your "last minute fare". You can't get that kind of price to MCO from my neck of the woods, no matter when it is purchased.....

Best of luck.

Looking back, your right, dudspizza.....I guess it's just the way I felt. I asked if anyone else had heard anything about them getting off the ground and just heard a lot of negative things about the company and their business concept. I guess I'm just feeling insecure and dissapointed.
Thanks for pointing it out in a nice way.

I don't think you were foolish for giving it a shot, a few people win Lotto.

All JetAmerica would be is a scheduled charter flight. They do not (will not???) have their own planes. They would be using "Miami Air" 737s for their flights. It's technically not even an airline...just a charter.

You paid $9 for a flight on a charter airline that has yet to have a single departure and now you are mad at their "customer service"??

You get what you paid for, in this case, you paid almost nothing and it would not surprise me one bit if you never get to fly with Jet America.

Legacy airlines are losing hundreds of millions and they have customers who pay top dollar for last minute fares and first class seats. No business traveler is going to book a charter airline to an airport that is about 70 miles from Orlando. How much do you think Jet America will be able to make??

Honestly that shouldn't even be legal to try to sell Melbourne as Orlando!
