Jesus wasn't resurrected

Sorry I haven't read throught the whole thread but there's no way that Jesus can be God because Cameron thinks that he is.

I'm really enjoying the hard-core, right wing, bible-thumpers reactions to a program that hasn't even aired yet. there was some Catholic guy on Glenn Beck tonight having a coronary about how this show is a direct assault on his faith.

way too funny.

Well, after 23 pages, I am certainly willing to admit that I may have lost track of something, but I don't recall reading much in the way over-the-top fussing.

In fact, the movie seems to have lost its purchase in this thread--much like it will upon all of us a month or two after its release.

Movies come and go--can't think of one that changed the world. This one is unlikely to be an exception.

Not exactly a Hard-Core, Right Wing, Bible-thumperer, but yes claiming that a person many beleive to be God is not God can be considered an attack on thier faith.

Great answer and this is my point re: the Bible. It is only what it is because of human faith, not because of any fact. Faith is a very powerful thing and is what drives religion of all sorts.

No fact whatsoever? Nothing believable? Pure faith only? Those old documents mean nothing? No credence at all? Wow...

What about what my history book says about the Dark Ages, for instance? That was a long time ago. Why is that more believable?

My point is not to try to "prove" my choice of religion to anyone. But to say one must have blind faith to believe the Biblical accounts of Jesus, the disciples, Paul, etc. is ludicrous.

Wait. He actually says in the movie that Jesus was not "god"? Huh... learn something new every day. I thought it was a movie about an archaelogy discovery that may or may not show that someone named Jesus son of Joseph married someone named Mary and had children. It is not like they can prove it is THE Jesus, though heck, one can speculate.

Oddly, I would like him even more if he did marry, have children and grapple with life just like the rest of us. But that could be just me.

Never said you had to have blind faith. Try not to read what you want into my words, please. I said that you cannot state that the Bible is fact and that the power in the book comes from the faith people have in it, not because it is pure fact. I can point to many many books that are in my library, great books of fiction that reference real places, real people and real things that happened, but the way they are put together, the dialog and the events are made up to further the story, since no one knows what actually happened at that time, what was actually said and what people actually thought. The authors researched the time, the people and the events that the book centers upon and then used that as the framework to make a really fantastic story. Anyone, 2,000 years from now, can look back and see that the people, places and events actually took place, but that still does not mean that the book itself, that the story, is indeed fact.

I am not stating that the bible is not a great book, nor am I trying to say that it is all fiction. I am merely stating that it cannot and will never be "fact", simply because it cannot be proven as such. Your faith may say differently to *you*, but that does not change the truth. As a book, as a narrative, it is powerful, but it cannot be used in an argument as proof of anything.

Yeah, but let's not let that get in the way of a good jab now & then.

Well, I disagree with you, but I'll let it go at that.

Jabs are fair game.

It's the right that's a bit over the top in polite conversation. :cool2:

:rotfl2: I've found I agree with you quite a bit on religion, but when it comes to politics (right & left), we're light years apart, so I won't touch that comment! :)

:lmao: Now that's funny -- I didn't even see that until your post.

Ok, that wraps it up for me tonight.

Cheers!

I'll head over to the church and pack up the altar. The end of Christianity has arrived.

it's about time, the body count is so high God himself shakes his head and has a moment of silence at the thought of Christianity and the millions that have died in it's cause.

and I still can't touch a stripper or buy beer before 11:00 on sundays.

I don't understand the whole hullabaloo. The ossuaries may be the only physical proof Jesus even existed.

I thought you couldn't buy a beer before 12:00.
