I've been diligently studying up & doing my homework tonight. Watching youtube like a fiend.
Just watched Natalie Umbruglia do the Tim Tam Slam with Graham Norton on his show. Very instructive. I now understand why I must immediately turn the biscuit upright & get the Tim Tam in my mouth as soon as I feel the hot liquid touch my lips. Otherwise, I will have a hot chocolate mess all over my fingers & cup.
I don't think I can put the Graham Norton link up here because it is likely too salty.
However, one could google Graham Norton Tim Tam Slam and find on youtube.
I am now ready for my Tim Tam Slam at o-dark thirty tomorrow morning. Bring on the chocolate goodness!

It doesn't go soggy, it goes gooey, like melted chocolate.
See I don't do it as soon as the hot liquid comes through, I give it a bit longer to really melt, otherwise it is a weird texture.
Wow, wow, wow! Completed my Tim Tam Slam before 6am & it was incredible!
I will post a more detailed description later today after work.
Thanks for all the instructions, Jes. Worked perfectly on the very first Tim Tam.

I did this in the dark early this morning! Woo-hoo!
I poured a cup of hot joe, added a dash of cream and a little sugar.
Then I chewed off the opposite edges of the biscuit.
Using the biscuit as a straw, I inhaled a little joe into the biscuit and then, just as the biscuit started to soften in the middle, I flipped it upside down and slammed it into my mouth.
Wowzers!
I'm afraid that if I provide any other description, it will prove too salty & much too sweet.
We have our WINNER!
This was an 11 out of 10. Off the charts, baby!
ps I just had to do this slam 3x this morning for quality control reasons and, 'cause, yeah.
What was this Hotty Liquid Slam experience REALLY like?
Well, it was like a little of this . . .
Mixed with a little of this . . .
No, really maybe more like this . . .
It was a Battle Royale between our Aussie sisters but the Tim Tam guts, gold & glory goes to . . .
Jes!
Tips & Tricks:
1) I put my Tim Tams in the fridge overnight. It is so hot in Canada this August and chilling probably helped this newbie Tim Tamer enjoy a Slam without slopping chocolate all over herself. It gave me a chilly edge;
2) I did my homework. I watched a tonne of youtube videos last night. I was ready for the challenge; and
3) I had an excellent Coach. Frankly, Jes was worried about me. I was worried about me. Would I let her down? Would I drop my biscuit in my mug & generally die of embarrassment? But . . . I did OK. I survived the Slam.
Is there a Hack?
If you can't find Tim Tams in a grocery store near you, what to do? Can you substitute a North American chocolate treat? Maybe.
Cover your eyes my Australian Possums & don't read any further.
While it will never, never be the same (I must stress this on behalf of our friends from Oz), it would be interesting to experiment with the following (poor but tasty) substitutes: In Canada: Kit Kat Chocolate Bar or Coffee Crisp Chocolate Bar In the US: Hershey's Bar None, Reese's Sticks & maybe Twix (but could be too dense)
The bars would need to be cut either in half or in thirds to get the right size.
You need a wafer bar covered in a coating of chocolate to make the "slam straw".
No doubt our Aussie friends will yell a bit about this but, what is a Westerner to do if we can't get our paws on authentic Tim Tams?
And if our hack is a fail . . . at least it is a tasty fail. You can always eat the evidence.
If you are intrepid and go for the hack, pls post here & let us know the results.
I had a wonderful time learning all about Australian foodie culture. It was a wild Down Under Adventure for this little Canuck full of Big Flavour and Biggie Fun.
Thank you Princess Jes & minniemumma for your inspiration, advice, and infinite patience!
I'm so glad you liked it! Personally, I actually don't even like to eat Tim tams unless it's this way. It's a chocolatey treat that is basically enough to substitute for dessert!
I need to try it with white Tim tams, but the calorie count of even one of those suckers has kept me away recently (I only have them once in a blue moon anyway)
It was wonderful! I have a few left in the fridge. If I'm really good today, I may let myself have one for dessert.
These would be a fantastic treat in Feb when our Canadian winters start to really get us down. I'll have to grab another pack to hide away to help fight the Winter Blues! Thanks again for letting us know about the Tim Tam Treat
Dang it!!! I still think my way is better! Come on people we need more testers to try the challenge!! Help me out I can't lose to my little sister @Princess Jes!!!!!
We also do this with teddy bear biscuits but I only do this with coffee - for the record this is the only time I have coffee
