Are making me crazy!! We already bought our flights to MCO through SW for $156 one way on 11/2.

All of the major airlines (AA, Delta, United) are crazy expensive for the return home on 11/11. Over $280+. SW and Spirit haven't released their fares yet. Frontier just released their fares today and $266 one way!

We may never get home at this rate. I really don't want to pay $400+ for a RD ticket to Orlando!

Anyone have any experience during Jersey Week? Do they go down a bit as the date gets closer?

I'm 20 minutes from Philly airport but willing to fly into Baltimore, Newark and JFK or LGA if I HAVE to.

Try Trenton and Atlantic City before you try Baltimore, Newark, JFK or LGA. Spirt sometimes has super cheap fare and Frontier out of Trenton can be way less than Frontier out of Philly.

I did. Still $266 on Frontier out of Trenton. Still crazy high with other airlines. I'm just going to wait out and see what Spirit and SW looks like when they release their fares.

We always do southwest out of BWI for jersey week.

I'm thinking that may be my best bet. Going to MCO the price was probably $10 difference between PHL and BWI on 11/2 so I went with PHL. I will be on the SW site at 6 am on 5/31 to see what they have released.

Try a day other than Monday? Maybe more people are traveling on Veteran's day?

I would rent a car and drive home. We did it a few years ago from Orlando and dropped car off at Newark airport. Two day rental was $120 plus gas. Much cheaper than flying our family of 5 home. I am doing it this year if flight prices don't come down for our trip in August on the return flight.

It's just myself and DD12. I can't and won't drive that by myself. It's really not an option. I'll figure it out if the prices don't kill me first! lol

I don't know what's going on with the airfare but it seems especially high this year. Last year I got round trip from Newark to Orlando for a little over $200/round trip and booked in January or February (wasn't the day flights were released). This year I booked Newark to MCO for $135 but coming home they are still around $200. Personally, I think the flights are going to stay expensive because the economy is doing so well but I am hoping they come down.

Seeing the cost of flights on the east coast are scary. Its terrible when we can fly from the West Coast to the East for almost the same or cheaper then you guys can staying on the East. I would say to wait for June Southwest Sale but I know its scary to wait. We are going in October and paid $144 each and that's for a very rare non stop on Southwest. I feel for you guys in the East.

My only hope is to jump on SW the minute they’re released and hope for a miracle.

This is just simple supply and demand. Airline computers know that people traveling for vacation want to maximize their time off by flying home on a Sunday. So, the computer sets fares higher on those high-demand days. There are plenty of days in November that offer cheaper fares. It's kind of a "it is what it is" situation.

Yup I'm pretty much stuck. I'm going to wait and see what SW and Spirit release for PHL and BWI. I looked at flying into DC and Frontier has them at $69. I know my SO would pick me up but that's a 2.5 hour drive and it's asking a lot.

Umm.. just change the date? Seriously, that may be your best option. Come home Friday or Saturday?

We rented points (first time doing this) so I'm locked into my dates. We will make it work. :)

On previous trips were in the summer and we plan around airfare. We would usually fly Wednesday to Wednesday which is much cheaper. But we really wanted to try a different time of year so Jersey Week it is. I knew flights would be more but I wasn't expecting it to be this high.

Well as a DVC member I have often just booked a late flight and left my room early. So for example the reservation went through Sunday I just fly home late Saturday night. Is that an option? You would not be losing much?

The flights for Saturday night are expensive too. It is an option and I will keep looking. SW releases fares 5/31 and I will have to make a decision then. I'm not going to wait until the last minute.

If there's any chance you can get away with carry on bags only, one thing we will do in a worst case scenario is book a cheap flight that has a layover in the city you want to be in - Philly in your case. For example, I needed to fly from Buffalo to Philadelphia, but the nonstop flights were very pricey. So, I booked a United flight from Buffalo to Hartford, CT with a layover in Philly, and just stayed in Philly. It only was doable because I had carry-on bags and my return trip was booked separately as a one-way ticket, so not on the same itinerary. Good luck!
