When is "Jersey" week and how does it effect the crowds.

Hello,

Jersey week is usually the first full week in November. The NJ Teacher's Association has its convention, and the kids don't have school Thursday and Friday. It's also usually election day, and most schools are off then, too. Since three of the five school days are vacation days for the kids, lots of families go to WDW during this time. I don't think you'll notice an increase in crowds. Besides, most people from NJ are really nice. Our state has the worst reputation. We have plans to go in 2007.

For 2006, the week begins on Monday, November 6.

We've been during Jersey Week several times. In 2004, the crowds weren't too bad Nov 1-2, but Nov 3-6 were quite heavy. We witnessed 90 min waits at many attractions in the MK on Nov 4 and ended up leaving the park around noon. Headed over to Epcot and found it to be a little better. I think this week is getting more and more popular every year.

We were in WDW for Jersey Week 2 years ago. I had never even heard of it before that. The only place that we experienced heavier than normal crowds was one afternoon in the MK. It seemed that everyone in the long line for the HM had on some sort of New Jersey T shirt

As some have already said, yes it does affect attendance, it definitely spikes that week compared to the weeks before and after. Does it compare to Spring Break, Easter, 4th of July, or NYE, no it does not, but it does make lines longer, and dining more difficult.

This year it is Nov 5 to Nov 12th, 2006.

Yes, "Jersey Week" will be busier than the surrounding weeks. But it is becoming a very popular week to go since many kids besides Jerseyans have days off that week. Other states as well have days off - my nephew in North Carolina has the same days off from school. Many kids are off that Friday for Veterans Day. So whenever so many kids are off, it makes Disney more crowded. The Thursday - Saturday will be the most busy, especially at Magic Kingdom. And with a three day weekend, many locals come to Disney, too.

Funny thing is, here on the DIS, most weeks there are multiple posts asking about how crowded Jersey Week is, and almost all these posts are started by people not from New Jersey. Probably because their kids have days off that week, too! I vote we rename "Jersey Week" to something else, since many come to Disney that week from all over!!

We've been to WDW during Jersey week several times. I don't think the crowds are big at all compared to Spring Break or summer crowds. However, the weekends are usually more crowded since you have the locals, Food & Wine Fest, and SuperSoap weekend during this time also. We utilize FP and we've never had a problem. We usually go to MGM EMH and leave the park early afternoon to avoid the SuperSoap crowd.

True....I confess....not from Jersey. But we do live near Philly which is very close to NJ, so I get brownie points for that ?
Actually, here in our area of PA the kids get off for Election Day (usually a Tues) and then they often get a teacher inservice day thrown in that week as well........so that week works for us because the kids aren't missing school for that 1-2 days......but Jersey Week doesn't always work out this well for us. Some years the dates are off a bit.
