JellyRoll's?

1) We have always enjoyed ourselves.
2) Even more, now that smoking is banned from Jellyrolls.
3) We get there about 8:30pm, so we can get a close-in table.
4) We find
. . . the place can get loud as everyone gets into the action
. . . the sound system is adequate
. . . the piano players we have seen are pretty decent (not great, but good.)
. . . the night is enjoyed by most folks
. . . the number of drunks is really quite small (unless there is a convention)

Many replies have said to arrive early. What constitutes "early?" Because usually at home here, if I don't go out by 7:30 or 8:00pm, I'm too lazy to go out anyway! LOL!

We went on a non-cast day - but I can't remember if it was Monday or Thursday. We got there soon after it openned - 7:00 PM. I don't think the piano players started until nearly 8:00 - and there were only a dozen people there until nearly 9:00, when it really started to fill up. But that was the first week of MARCH. By the time we left (around 10:00 or so) it was really crowded. Personally, I could've stayed all night.

Youngest DD will be turning 21 while we are there next May. Would it be a fun place for her to celebrate with her 22 year old DSIS & DBIL or would the crowd be too old for her? If so, is there any place else on property which would be better? DH and I aren't really party animals anymore so we're a little out of touch.

The guy in the glasses is the one that did Rainbow Connection a la Kermit the Frog when i was there

Scotty is the one who does The Rainbow Connection.

Scotty as well as his brother Michael do a great Disney melody as well. :thumbsup2

I read somewhere about a big red cup special at JR. Can anyone explain that?

The big red cup is a drink special that they offer nightly. It's always changing but they are usually a rum based fruity drink like a Hurricane. They are served in a red solo cup about twice the size of the average one.

Count me as a permanent member of the Jellyrolls fan club. I think most of the questions have been answered here so far. Jellyrolls is a blast, I've never had a bad time in probably 20 visits or so. A note on the big red cup, to me its not a very good value. It seems like it should be an awesome deal cause, well, its a huge cup. But its a huge cup filled mostly with juice, so if you're looking for "bang for the buck" it may not be your best choice:thumbsup2

I also am not a fan of Jelly Rolls, so you aren't alone in this one Robo. It really wasn't my type of thing. DH didn't much like it either. We only spent about a half hour there and left.

what about the atlantic dance hall...does it ever get busy. I have popped my head in there like twice..stayed for a short while, but there is never more than a handful of people

what is the story there?

Hiya! Friends of ours are getting married in St Pete, so for the bachelorett we're going to Typhoon Lagoon during the day, then over to Rainforest Cafe and we're debating whether to go to Jellyrolls or Atlantic Dance Hall.
The idea of a piano bar, I think, would work well for the group and the tone of the evening. But has anyone been to both? WHat do you think of them?

This pretty much sums up Atlantic Dance-

What is Atlantic Dance Hall about? Because if it's not crowded but still a good time, that sounds like a great find to me.

Here goes from a former cast member:

1) If you don't want to see the host who helped you get on Haunted Mansion getting drunk, then DO NOT go on Sundays and Tuesdays. When I was there, these were the days the place offered no cover to cast members.

Now EVERY night is CM night! There are no covers for CM's any more so you will see them there on any night of the week. Yay!

Atlantic Dance Hall is great for dancing...but I never have near enough courage to be one of the three people actually ON the dance floor. It's a beautiful place but unfortunately the lack of crowds leaves it lacking in atmosphere for most. Still worth a look though.

I was just mentioning on a "best drinks" thread earlier today that during this last trip I noticed that most of the overpriced mixed drinks (I like them fruity, umbrella optional) were actually pretty strong - I'd gotten used to mixed drinks that completely covered the taste of alcohol, but with two exceptions, that was not the case during my March trip! The two exceptions were the Grand Marnier Slush at the France Pavillion in Epcot (which is just about the best thing I've ever had), and the Amaretto Sours I had at Jellyrolls. Not strong at all!

Does Atlantic have a cover charge too? I'm pretty sure they do..

As far as I know, Atlantic Dance Hall does not have a cover charge. The Video DJ nights are really fun, and those are usually on Fridays.

And yes... my fiance and I were one of the "three" people on the dance floor. It gets much busier (and crazier) after midnight or 1am. We've seen all ages of people 21-65 years old there. At odd hours of the night, they turn up in random combinations on the dance floor.

We don't mind a crowd at all, but the crazy clubbing atmosphere becomes a bit much, and that's when we leave.

:dance3::rolleyes::dance3:

I absolutely love Jellyrolls. I go there every single trip (almost every single night of every single trip). The piano players are fantastic. It's worth every penny. If you see Scotty and Ray, tell them Karen from boston sent you ;)

Thank you all for your feedback.
We have (had?) a dueling piano bar in Boston. I went once, but it was always a favorite spot and it didn't matter if you were 21 or 81...everyone had fun singing and laughing. I hope Jellyrolls is like that. From what you all are saying, it sounds like it will be.

Joolish, the last time I had been to a dueling piano bar was in the late 80's in Chicago. We went to Jellyrolls in January 2009, and your description fit the night I went perfectly.

We'll definately be heading to Jellyrolls again in December.

And if you can remember where the one is (was?) in Boston, that would be awesome. Because my sister lives there and I get there a lot more often than I get to DisneyWorld :goodvibes

Hi f15robyn!
The bar in Boston is called Jake Ivory's; it's behind Fenway Park on Lansdowne Street (near Jillian's). I just searched for it and it looks like it is still open. Hope you and your sister can visit it!
