Jellyrolls Newbie! Questions!!!!

I just cant wait! I have heard that Jellys is GREAT and I am planning on meeting a very special group of buddies at Jellys this coming week-

I have never been so can you tell me what to expect??? TIA!

While we've never failed to have a great time, HOW great a time depends on the crowd on a given night. The duelling piano players are pretty much limited to playing what's requested. Audience members drop requests, along with a tip, on the pianos. If the players know a tune, and it's not shot through with explitives, they play and sing it and encourage the crowd to join in. A good, hip crowd will request good tunes, a bunch of old f@rts might request Lawerence Welk stuff, so take a bunch of Washingtons and make good requests!

Thanks Bill- I appreciate your quick response- LOL! No havent hit the Lawerence Welk stage yet- What have you heard them play for requests???? duelling piano players sound like alot of fun!

Just Let Loose And Sing Along With The Rest Of Em! It's So Muhc Fun And For Us Just As Much An Attraction As The Parks!

We Love Going There After Park Hours, Drinking Some Beers And Throwing Ourselves Into The Scene.
Even The People Who Tend To Shy Away From Joining In On The Sing Along Have A Good Time!

Hey Jigger! Jellyrolls newbie here too. I'm going Sunday 10/1 after fireworks. DH flys out for business early pm, so I'm a loner. There's a group of DISers planning to be there. If you're there then come by.... (I hate being the only Newbie!)

It's surprising what they can cover. I've heard a good 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Hotel California' for instance, and of course Elton John tunes lend themselves as a matter of course. Depending on the players there could be a lot of more current stuff as well. At one point, there's an audience participation number by Neil Diamond during which you're encouraged to sing the line, "This song sucks", with which I agree BTW. Two more points, there's a $5 cover as of March of this year and smoking is allowed. If you want to sit right down front, get there early, we prefer a stool along the right railing, above the floor.

Hi Lori- Will just be arriving on the first- but thanks for the invite! Sounds like you all will have a BLAST! Wont be going over to Jellys till the 4th-

As Bill says, the songs played will depend on the crowd, but always expect Billy Joel, Jimmy Buffet and a mix of 80's & 90's hits too. Songs that everyone knows the lyrics to are good to request.

I THINK AS FAR AS THE COVER SONGS, WHEN THEY DO "SWEET CAROLINE", IT'S THE MOST FUN SING ALONG OF ALL THE SONGS THEY DO B/C IT'S A REAL PARTICIPATION SONG.
THEY ALSO DO A GOOD "COUNTRY ROADS", BTW. I REQUESTED IT LAST YEAR.
BUT WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT REQUEST PIANO MAN, IT IS NOT ORIGINAL AND THEY HATE IT! LOL!

Each pianist has their own skills ... I've heard a version of Rainbow Connection, done in a kermit the frog voice, I've heard a wonderful rendition of Bob Seger's Turn the Page, someone has a very good Ring of Fire, and I've even heard "The Man who Never Returned".
