If you have been there, please tell me about this "dueling piano" bar- age group, songs, food, cover charge, and how people were dressed. Thanks! :cool1:

Welcome to the DIS, cmc mouse!

Jellyrolls is 21 plus. They do not serve food there (except for salty popcorn). Dress is theme park casual (shorts or jeans and t-shirts are fine). The cover charge is $8 (and worht every penny).

I highly recommend trying to see Scotty and Ray. You can find out who is playing while you are there at www.thepianomen.com The schedule comes out two weeks at a time.

I think cover is $8 (it was the last time we were there in August). You must be 21. The musicians are great but to be honest I think the experience you will have will depend on the crowd.

I don't remember if there is food or not but I'm sure some Jellyrolls experts will join in this discussion!

Thanks a lot! We never go to BoardWalk and I don't know anyone who has ever been to JR. A cast member recommended it when I was making one of our PS. It sounds fun. I think we'll go. :flower:

One more question- Is it one of those places that doesn't get "rolling" until late- like a typical bar, or is it fun even at 7:00?

There is no need to get there at 7:00--you'd be the only one there. The pianos don't start until 8:00. There are usually only a few people in the bar at 8:00, but I enjoy the 8:00 hour because the piano players are extra chatty, and you can get them to play stuff that would slow down the evening if you requested it later (If you go early and see Tommy Bell--the one with the long hair--ask him to play some James Taylor).

Jellyrolls is one of our absolute favorites, and we make plans to go there everytime we are at WDW. (Sometimes more than once!) We have been there earlier, and IMO it doesn't seem to get going until after 10. I also think different crowds add different experiences. We were there once when there was a wedding party, and it got really crazy, but really fun, too! Other times are more mellow, it just depends. We have often gone to Pleasure Island for a few hours, and then ended the night at JR if we weren't too tired. It gets more relaxed from 11:30 till close, as most people leave to go home, but the diehards stay till the end! :cool1:

Jellyrolls was our favorite bar in WDW before we had a child. Now we don't know is there are any bars in WDW. I always found it to be a younger crowd - more 20's to 30's than anything else, but as with most places in Disney, there were people of all ages (over 21). The place is dead when it opens, but if you're a drinker, this is the best time to go. You get to know the bartenders and they take care of you the rest of the night.

You gotta go to Jellyrolls at least once. As I said, I always enjoyed it more than anything at Pleasure Island.

I know it was great fun when we went there. Is it still smoking though? I have to tell you that was an issue for us, we could not breath and that night we had to take our clothes and put them in a plastic bag separated from the rest of our clothing as they really did smell awful.

Karen, I know you love it there, but I had to say it. Maybe it is now non smoking which would make it terrific as it is a fun time.

Thanks for all of the information everyone! It sounds like a hoot. We are going to go early in the trip so we can go back again if we love it. ;)

That info about the smoke and about not being able to pay with your room card/charge is very helpful!!! :goodvibes

smoking is still allowed @ Jellyrolls, since it falls into the parameters of FL law that less than (I believe) 10% (0%, actually) of its revenue comes from food sales.

Smoking is definitely still allowed at Jellyrolls. Although its a fun place, the smoke really ruined it for us. Couldn't breathe, hurt our eyes, made our clothing smell bad.

Smoking is just about the only thing I don't like about Jellyrolls :(

Karen

i love the concept of jellyroll's but the fact that they have no food except popcorn (beer munchies and i don't like popcorn! :rotfl: ) and the smoking has always driven us to pleasure island. i did have fun the couple of times i went to jellyroll's but because of smoking and hunger we only stayed for an hour or two.

Jellyrolls is an absolute must for each of our trips. When I was on the Disney College Program, we went there at least once a week for the six months I was down there. Drinks are not cheap and it does get smoky, but this place is great.

Two notes that were not covered in detail:

1. The dress code is casual. Some people will wear jeans and a t-shirt, others will be dressed in "bar clothes." There is a variety of people (young/old, locals/vacationers, drunks/casual-drinkers, etc.). I think it is great because everyone fits in.

2. One of my favorite things about Jellyrolls (compared to my local dueling piano bar) is that because they are on Disney property, they tend to watch their language and comments a little more. My local piano bar can get really raunchy, but these guys know how to be entertaining without taking it too far.

I would highly recommend it if you get a chance. They always play a mix of new songs and old favorites, great for most crowds. Bring a few song ideas and leave them on a napkin for them with a tip and they will try to play it. Some favorites include Piano Man (obvious, I know), Brown Eyed Girl, Sweet Home Alabama, Jack and Diane, etc. If you like country, Tommy Bell does a great "Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde" by Travis Tritt. All of the guys are great - you can't go wrong no matter which night you go. If you don't want a crazy, college crowd, you might want to ask what nights the CM's get in free and then avoid them.

Have a blast!!!! Wish I was going!
