Jeff Galloway's training....

I want to train for a full marathon in October. I was looking at buying one of his books...which one do most of you use?
 
I am training for my first marathon, coming up on Feb. 7th, using his book "Marathon: You Can Do it!" I have followed his plans with only a few modifications to fit my lifestyle and I feel that I am well prepared.

I also used his Half Marathon book to train for the two halfs that I have done and I exceeded my expectations in both races. Very good books IMO.

You cannot go wrong with any of Jeff's books or training plans. Though I would encourage and challenge you to do a little more on your midweek runs than called for in his beginner plans.

Im doing marthonrookie.com - 1/2 plan with the help from Charles (thanks a million) and doing great!! I ran 5 on Sun in 1:05 and I feel great :)

Trust fellow wishers, as their experience is priceless :)
 
I offer this one word of warning for anyone starting one of these programs-it may feel too easy in the early going-but don't be tempted to bound ahead. I was in good cardo shape from swimming and the runs felt too easy-so I skipped ahead and skipped myself right into a stress fracture. Sure, my heart and lungs were ready, but my foot bones were NOT.

Agreed - you do not want to increase weekly miles more than an approixmate 10% a week. Though even then you can SF. It's all about who you are and your bone density and strength.
 
Even though I typically take walk breaks in any race over 5 miles, My first marathon training book was, "marathon training for non-runners". I simply followed the training with walk breaks. I also got a copy of "first marathons" for motivation. Good luck.
 
Just finished the Goofy doing all my training through a local Galloway running group. I followed the long run schedule and ran 2x midweek, but did make one of them speedwork later in the year. The first year that I ran with the group I did exactly what PeterPan09 said and overdid it and sat out a couple of months with a stress fracture. Take it easy, and good luck!

I'm doing Galloway to train for the full in January.
He already had us do a 17 miler. There is really only three real big runs before the full in January left. He has a 20 miler this Sunday, 23 miles on 11/21 and then 26 on 12/12. Then there are three weeks of tapering!
DH who has run several fulls and even a 40 miler thinks we need to change this up a bit.
I've been following this program pretty faithfully up until this point and I've had minor knee problems so I'm thinking it is working for me. I've only been doing two 3 mile runs during the week and then a longer run on the weekend. I run the short runs and do a R3/W1 on the long runs. I dunno! I don't want to peak too early! And then it seems nobody really runs past 20 during their training? DH thinks we need to do a least one longer run at least two weeks before the full. UGH! Don't know what to do...
Galloway vets, thoughts?
