Jedi Training Question

For those who have gone this year to the Star Wars first weekend, how do they handle the Jedi Training Academy. Some have said in previous threads that in other years the kids just kept calling out pick me, pick me. Then in another thread some said you signed up for it next to the Star Wars ride. Could you please clarify how they are doing it this year. Thanks.

It's a pick me, pick me type situation. If you haven't been there before be ready for huge crowds, lol. There was a 4 hour line just to get into the store!

I was there a rew years ago but it was only crowed around the Star tours area..is it still like that or is it really busy everywhere. We are going on the last day with the EMH night.

MGM was just generally crowded this weekend. It was much worse over near Star Tours, but crowded over the entire park.

I saw one of the Jedi Training Sessions. It was a pick me type of thing. There were some disappointed kids. At the end, the announcer told the kids that didn't get picked to come back for a later session and try again.

We went this weekend and my son got picked by yelling "pick me, pick me" and jumping up and down. Your best bet is wait for the crowd to clear out from a previous show and stand up next to the rope and wait for the next show to start. I think it's about 30 to 40 minutes in between. Have you child jump and yell and hope for the best. At the end of the training they get a certificate and a Star Wars action figure. My son got a Clone Trooper.
We then waited in line for the store. It only took about 30 minutes and a Jedi cast member walked through the line handing out Star Wars action figures to the kids. Very cool !
Once we got in the store we purchased a Darth Mickey.
We will be back next weekend!

Do you think it helps if the child is wearing a Star Wars costume? Or would that hurt? DD has a Queen Amidala outfit she wore for Halloween last year...

There was a girl in Leia costume next to us that got picked!
The real key is to be in the front row against the rope otherwise they won't see you.

Do you mind my asking what day of the weekend and what time you went. I need to go back again next weekend and I really don't want to wait in line for hours again.

Except during the parade times, the shows happen quite frequently, so I agree with waiting for one to be over and then standing close for the next one to start. My sons didn't want to participate, but got the biggest kick out of watching it several times right against the ropes. Whatever makes them happy

We were there this past Friday, and it was a nice size crowd. We waited in the line to get into the store, but at that time no one was passing out action figures. That would have been a great treat for my boys. They tried for the jedi training twice, and wasn't picked either times. The first time they were not in the front. I had my 5yo on my shoulder, but that didn't help. The second time my 10yo was in the front but the guy picked kids on both sides of him. My 5yo was very disappointed too, but by the second time my oldest didn't want to really do it anyway. I think he lost the enthusiasm from feeling rejected the first time. Oh, they didn't have on costumes, but my kids had on popular star wars apparel...I say popular, because I saw the shirt and outfit a few times in the crowd.
All that to say, I think it would be better if they had a sign-up sheet for it, the same way they do for the trivia game they hold. I don't think children should have to experience getting overlooked for something they really would like to do...and wait to do, in that hot sun. I am going to write a letter of suggestion to Disney. Since that is about all I can do regarding that.

We went on Saturday at about 2PM. This comming weekend is Memorial Day weekend so it might be busier than usual and Florida schools will be out for the summer. I suggest you get there 30 to 60 minutes before the park opens and make a bee line to the store.
