My 6 year old ds is completely obsessed with Star Wars right now.. getting to participate in this would just make his trip.... We are going in October and are planning to be at HS at rope drop. The site tells me to go the the studio right away to sign up... is it first come first serve in getting picked or is there a process to being selected?
I would love to make this happen for him :)

Sign up and you're "picked". At one time kids were randomly picked out of the crowd, but that was years ago now.

Also make sure that you are there before rope drop...so the front of the herd. That will let you sign up (for a show time later in the day) and then head over to TSM to ride before the crowd swells.

Sometimes the gates open as early as 8:30 for a 9am opening. I would shoot to be in line by 8:15. Have fun...it is really a very cool experience! Pay attention to EMH, as sign-ups start during that time, so skip those days if you are staying off site.

And remember he has to be with you when you sign him up. The CM want to meet the potential padawans (and ask questions about fighting the Dark Side) just to make sure he won't freeze on stage

If you have any interest in the Hollywood and Vine breakfast, try to get an 8am ADR on a day that the park is not opening before 9am. We did this, was out the door by 8:50, walked over to the Jedi Training, which is only about a 2 minute walk, and was signed up for the 10:10 Jedi Training.

If you don't want to do the breakfast, definitely get to the park by 8:00 or 8:15 to make rope drop and head directly to the sign-ups. When we went into the park around 7:50 for our ADR, there were already people lined up to get in. I am not sure where they were headed, but the line had already started.

There is a thread from a couple of months ago with a lot of good info about this. I posted my experience in post # 42. :)

We were there last Oct, and got there before rope drop with the intention of signing up for Jedi training. It was fine, and we were able to sign DS up for (I think) the 11am show.

But I was shocked at the way people RAN to the signups. I saw more than one dad pick up their kid and run for it. It was a bit crazy.

Signups do take some time. I waited in line with DS for probably the better part of 30-40 minutes.

All the more reason to do a H&V breakfast if you want to do JTA. :thumbsup2 The longest line we've ever experienced at JTA signups was 5 people, and that's because I sent my husband to sign our daughter up and he made a rookie mistake and went the wrong way, and didn't realize his mistake until he saw the mass of people running toward him from the entrance. :lmao: Then he turned around and ran in the right direction and was still able to beat the crowd.

Thank you for sharing your experience with this. I hope we can make something work to get our boys signed up for this. They'd be in heaven!

You're welcome! My nephew had so much fun!! It's definitely an experience any young Star Wars fan would love. :)

Just a heads up, and I am sure some other people can jump in and comment....when we did it, we were in the 10:10 training. It was only Darth Vader that they battled. Someone here on the Dis posted that they were in a later training that same day, and they had both Darth Vader and Darth Maul. I don't know if this is something they do regularly, but maybe something to think about doing later in the day if your son likes both and this is standard.

Also, if it's raining or calling for rain, pay attention to that. The day we did it the rain was still sprinkling when we were signing up. They ended up cancelling the training for the 9:20 one, so we were the first of the day at 10:10. I've heard sometimes they give the kids in the cancelled one a meet and greet with Vader, but I think that is iffy. So if it's raining in the morning and you have the option to pick a later training, do that. If it's calling for rain in the afternoon and you can get morning, do that. :)

I definitely felt a lot better already being in the park and not having to worry about the people running from the entrance. And we had plenty of time by doing the 8am ADR.
