Has anyone been to this lately?? We have 4 boys (ages 2-8) and are wondering if this is something we should spend time on. How long does it
last?? Any info would be appreciated!!! Thanks!!

It sounds like something your boys will probably love. They actually pull kids out of the audience and teach them how to "battle" the dark side. My DD6 can't wait!

It is a lot of fun! Our boys have enjoyed it, although it can be a little heart-breaking if you are not picked....:sad1: but it is still fun to watch. They had to wait a few times before they were picked.

One thing that worked for us is making a little sign referencing something Star Wars-ish. Someone suggested that to us. The kids held it up while jumping and screaming to attract attention. It seemed :confused3 to help get them picked.

Good luck and :yoda: may the force be with you :rotfl:

This is a definite must do for little Star Wars fans! My little ones were picked and they talked about it for the rest of the day!

Quite a few tips, opinions & descriptions to be found here:

Most Boys (& girls) ages 4-10 would consider Jedi Training a trip highlight.

Good luck to your future Padewans. :thumbsup2

:)

Wow, that does look like fun!!! Thanks to all the responses!! I'm going to read that thread right now. My search feature wasn't working so thank you so much for finding that!!!!

Your youngest son will be too young to participate, but he should have a lot of fun watching his older brothers. And....like others have said....definitely have them make a sign to hold up. It REALLY works! Have fun! :)

We went in June at WDW. My suggestion...make SURE they are wearing Star Wars clothing. Encourage them to look cute, beg, wave their arms, etc, when they start picking kids to go onstage. I noticed that, in the crowd we were in, they picked kids who were on the line alone. Those who had parents standing with them, trying to wave the CMs over, tended to get passed by.

The whole thing, including wait time, was about half an hour. Are your kids Star Wars geeks? If so, do not pass this one up. My son has his "Padawan" certificate framed and on his desk. He is so into Star Wars that he will tell anyone who listens that he is now a padawan...and what that entails. :rotfl:

In fact, I already have the "make your own lightsaber" kit from WalMart in the closet for Christmas, as he read that one thing a padawan has to do prior to being promoted to Jedi is build his own lightsaber. (Someone in marketing deserves a well padded retirement fund for thinking that one up!)

Your kids are about the right age. It seemed that most of the ones picked were around my son's age...he's 7.

My only thought is...would it hurt any of their feelings if they didn't get picked but one of their siblings did? You might prepare them for the possibility.

That said, be sure to move to the front or right of the stage if they do get picked. All our photos of my son dueling Darth Vader were taken from behind Vader...I wish I'd gotten even one profile shot...because nobody in the crowd would let us scootch over to get pics!

If you want to know what any ride or show or attraction at DL is like, just go to youtube and search for it. Just type "jedi training disneyland" in the text box and there you go .... :surfweb:

When my sister and I went just the two of us on September 5, we had lunch near the Tomorrowland Terrace and watched the Star Wars Academy. It really is a cool thing! I took lots of pictures of the kids battling both Darth Vader and Darth Maul, also got some great close-ups from where I sat. They looked like they were having a blast up there. Heck, I wish I were that age to participate! ;)

My younger dd was picked on our trip last weekend. She was the only person with a sign. When we went thru security the next day they said signs were not allowed and made me throw it away.

There was a thread on this a while back. It seems that if the sign is in plain sight, they will ask you to discard it, as signs aren't allowed in the park. Without this rule, anybody could bring in any sign that said just about anything, which could be a problem. We had a sign folded up in my backpack and didn't know about this rule at the time. Nothing was mentioned about it and it wasn't taken. It seems people are still doing this as long as the sign is in a backpack, etc. or just writing out a sign after they enter the park.:)

Thanks for the clarification! I'd never been to a JTA when there weren't at least a few signs. I just found it weird kwim. But, as my friends irl will tell you, I'm the weird one lol!

If you want to be picked for jedi training arrive early befor the show ( stay after the previous show) chat it up with the photo pass oerson and you may get picked. We just got back from WDW the other day and my friend's son age 3 was picked to go up. So cute among the older kids. He had a blast and got a certificate for participating.

imo (at DLR) it's not necessary to hang for an hour (or more) in order to nab front row rope space (10 - 15 min. tops).

Also imo if trying to get the little padawan picked......it's more important to get the Master Jedi's attention (who makes the picks) than to chat up a photo pass person (who may or may not have pull with the Master). :)

See the links in posts on the first page for lots of opinions on the best ways to get little dis'ers picked in DLR.

ITA with Hound ... we didn't even see the photopass people until right before the show. We arrived about 20 mins before the show and were the second set of people to sit down.

I've never been to WDW but everyone who has that I know tells me that because the parks are so much bigger, attendendance is also bigger. Therefore there's more competition to get into anything....Jedi, Crush, etc.
