I also have tall, skinny kiddos. What I do with my girls' jeans that don't have an adjustable waist is simply ADD one. It's really easy to do. (Depending on the waistband of a particular pair of jeans, this may not be possible, but most of the time it is. This trick works on Justice jeans and shorts...) I purchase the adjustable elastic you find in kids' adjustable waistbands in a package in the elastic section of my fabric store. I cut a small vertical 1/2" slit in the very center of the back of the INSIDE of the waistband and two more the same size wherever I want the ends of the elastic to come out of the waist on the sides near the front. Cut a length of adjustable elastic that is about 4" longer than the total length from the right slit to the left slit (these slits being the ones closes to the zipper). This will allow for a 2" tab of elastic to stick out of either side when run through the inside of the waistband itself. Mark the center of the elastic on both sides of elastic with a vertical black line and run through waistband by attaching safety pins to both ends. Make sure elastic remains flat and does not get twisted when inserting through waistband. Gently open slit at back of waistband and center the black marking with the slit. Pin in place. Now, either hand sew or machine sew the elastic very securely in place, using a bobbin or thread that is the same color as the jeans. Take two buttons and sew one on each outer side (left and right) of the "exit" for the adjustable elastic. Turn the ends of the elastic under twice and hem by hand or machine to keep them from unraveling. Use liquid Fray Check, also found in your sewing section, to run along the cut edges of the slits you made in the jeans to keep them from fraying. Then button your elastic in place at the desired waist size, and VOILA! You now have an adjustable waistband for your tall, skinny child at ANY age. As an adult, I've often thought as much as a woman's tummy fluctuates in size throughout the month, WE should have an adjustable waist in all of the jeans WE own, too. So, problem solved! Hope my idea helps you as much as it has my skinny girls over the years! ~MelissaIf you ever find anything let me know!! I have the worst possible time trying to find pants for DS13 -- he is SUPER skinny (I think it was 85 pounds at his last appointment) 90% of the size 16 pants do NOT have adjustable waists anymore and once you go into the WxL jeans they most certainly don't. I have no idea what I'm going to do after size 16 gets too short. He has a belt but doesn't care to wear it too much & even if he did, there is still a lot of fabric to attempt to get bunched up. He may have no choice pretty soon.
I buy Size 16 slim with adjustable waists and pull them in whenever I can find them but they are HARD to find. I have found 16 Regulars & 16 Huskies but 16 Slims are few & far between as I will look on the shelf & see they don't even have a spot for them -- add in the need for adjustable waist and ugh.
When I DO find them, I try to snag as many pairs as I can but I don't want to go overboard because I know he will grow out of them lengthwise. I think Meijers is where I found some and Target. I know Wal-Mart around here anyway doesn't hardly carry any slims.

My DS was like that, and I had to order jeans in a 28x34 from American eagle. They have a slim boot cut that he liked. I think the regular 16 boys = 29x29 men's, 16 slim=27x29. The 28x32 or 34 inseam was great...just needed a belt for awhile. Plus they looked more tailored to a slim build than the boxy boys fit.If you ever find anything let me know!! ack. I just noticed this is a zombie thread.Wow - old thread.
I've seen some places selling "skinny" jeans for kids. We got a pair of kids size 5 skinny jeans for our thin-legged 4 year old who is growing into them. The brand was Petit Lem from Canada. We found them on sale online at Sierra Trading Post.
I'm sure there are other options.
Most brands have adjustable waists now...for my DS10 that is the height of an average 14 year old, yet could get his waist into size eights because he is so skinny, we really like Old Navy. They have the adjustable waist and seem to run half a size skinnier than other brands, yet are still long enough.Cause the DIS knows all. My friend's kids are tall and skinny so the waist is either too big and the legs are long enough, or the legs are too short but they fit in the waist. Any suggestions?
