Hey all,

Just giving y'all a heads up-- we just got a hurricane watch alert in Puerto Rico re: Tropical Storm Jeanne, which has gone from 30 mph to 60 mph winds today. She's now crawling WNW, is expected gain strength and turn to a category 1, and is projected to hit the south of Puerto Rico.

Needless to say, we were all taken by surprise...throughout the day every alert from the NOAA got worse and worse. Local forecasters expect it to dump up to 20 inches of rain as it traverses Puerto Rico, since she's just taking her time now and moving WNW very slowly. She's just a baby, so between us and Hispaniola, we may be able to slow her down a bit and have her skew northeast. Hurricanes can go either way when they hit us (we're so teeny..) Anyway, just something to keep an eye on if you're in Florida or travelling to WDW next weekend. :)

Thanks for the info. I hope that you're all safe caribbeanme.

We are traveling next week and started watching this last night. We'll see what happens. Keeping fingers crossed . . . .

I know storms can change at any time, but all the news stations here in Tampa have all but guaranteed that Jeanne is not coming to Florida.

It seems like this storm popped out of nowhere. :( I was supposed to leave Monday for a quick 3-day trip.

I just checked US Air and it's not offering changes for travel on the 20th yet. So, maybe there's still a chance that I'll go. I hope so. :(

Thanks, NYCKatie. We've been lucky thus far this year, just getting grazed by tropical level conditions instead of getting hit head on by hurricanes. Unfortunately, some of the islands around us have not been so lucky, and, of course, as soon as they've wreaked havoc in the Caribbean, off they go towards Florida.

Three hours ago, Jeanne was supposed to have barely grazed our southwestern corner. Now the guys at NOAA were saying that it will bifurcate the island diagonally from the southwest to northeast corner. Hopefully, it'll stay at tropical storm levels...We'll know in a couple of hours!

Hope the prognosis stays positive for the mainland!

of the Marriott there in San Juan. They have pulled in all the balcony furniture and most business are closed tomorrow.
He may have to stay an extra day to finish his business. It will be his first Hurricane. The hotel has not comunicated very well with its guests. He will work in his room as long as they have power.
Everyone stay safe there.........

Hey Pluto! I sent you a PM with my contact info just in case you need anything... It's not a hurricane right now and may still not become one (crossing fingers). If he needs someone to negotiate the phones and get him info. about what's going on with the weather, or he just needs a restaurant suggestion for his last day, he should feel free to e-mail or call... :)

For anyone concerned about this tropical storm, the news reports are still saying today Jeanne is not going to hit anywhere in Florida.

Along with everyone staying safe in its path (and the path of Ivan), I hope that both of these storms have come and gone by Friday or Saturday of 9/24-9/25. We will be driving from N.C. to Disney (either leaving Friday after work or very early Saturday morning - depending on the weather) and would rather not have to dodge any flood waters or high winds. Everyone stay safe!

Loretta -

Please keep those updates coming!

We are flying into Orlando on 9/22 for the land portion of our land/sea vacation and I'm very concerned. Even if the storm is not centered over Florida, isn't it likely to dump lots of rain over WDW?

Kris

Thanks for the info Loretta!! We are going down on 9/23 for our rescheduled trip from Frances...we were just starting to watch the news again for this latest storm!!!

We may get some rain, and like I said these storms can change quickly and turn at any given time....but our local tv weather guys (who have become household names in our town lately because of all the hurricanes) swear it won't hit. But they aren't get their information direct from Mother Nature either...
will keep you posted...

Thank you ! Because of you I might be able to get some sleep tonight! I have been so nerved out but your post definately helped! Please keep the updates coming! :)

yes, this storm is making me very nervous! We are leaving on Saturday afternoon for our week's vacation. Any one else considering rescheduling?

we live in south fla on the east coast and its not to concerning to us right now. Granted we are in the cone but with the added affects of Ivan- it may skirt right past us without any effects. Im hoping so. we need a break. Im still waiting for my adjuster to come out to the house from Frances.

I hate to say it but it looks like we might get this one. :(

And another one is brewing right behind Jeanne.

Unfortunately the meteorologists who predicted an unusually active hurricane season this year were right. Let's just hope their prediction of a brutally cold and snowy winter is wrong!

Looking forward to our December trip!
