Allow to me to begin by saying that this is a mere speedbump in life; not the kind of stress felt by those that have had no power and/or electricity for weeks; those whose jobs have or will soon be negatively affected, etc. A little background: We were supposed to leave fro HRH/USO/IOA on Sunday 9/12. The Friday prior, due to the uncertain path/degree of Ivan, DH and I made an informed decision to reschedule everything to commence Sunday 9/26. I considered us extremely lucky that DH's employer would allow him to switch vacation weeks at the last minute; and the kids' year round school scheduling gave us a 3 week window to work with. NOW here comes Jeanne. We are scheduled to spend Sunday night (driving from NC) near St. Augustine, and now there are no alternate vacation weeks. Do we leave Saturday and try to get settled in MCO before Sun pm? Do we wait it out and shorten our vacation? Do we cancel? Thank you, DISfriends for allowing me to vent. I promise you all that if we do indeed make it, I will repay you with a trip report with photos, happy hour details, the pH and temp of the HRH pool; the relative humidity in cabana 10; and the average BMI, HDL and LDL of the HRH staff. Wish us luck! megan

Megan you have a beutiul family. I would just pay attention. I think you should stick with your current plans and only modify them on a whim if you see it's necessary. You will know so much more in 48 hrs. I would'nt cancel i would wait it out. We leave on friday of next week so we will be put in a similar boat and the following friday we go back with our girls. We are doing HHn first then mnsshp for them. I will offer you this track to help provide you information and i can suggest you stay informed using www.flhurricane.com go under the forums and stay on top of things using there genuis. This site updates everything three hours so you'll have a wealth of information in a short time frame and a good idea by early sat what's going on.

I wish you a safe trip no matter when you take it. :)

Yeah, its heading straight west and we just received an email from emergency management to stay tuned and we are way south of the projected path. Go ahead with you plans. We left the safety of our house with a mandatory evacuation for Charley to go to Orlando and get in the eye. If worse comes to worse HRH won't lose power and it will be an adventure. Its an opportunity to teach your children how to handle an emergency.
I actually grew closer to my daughter as I hugged her under the mattress trying to get her to stop crying. My DS16 was a little different as we laid like spoons on the floor I borrowed a line from a movie, "This doesn't leave the cave!"

Does anyone know how long USO and IOA were closed (if at all) from Hurricane Charlie and Frances?

I'm headed down tomorrow, and I'm a bit skeptical about going since we will only be there for 4 days. If the parks are closed for 2 days then is kind of a waste of a trip.

They closed at 1 pm for Charley and opened the next day at 10.

I think I'd change the St Augustine night to somewhere farther west, but other than that, I'd probably go for it. It looks like the storm is going to bounce off the east coast. You will probably get rain, but if it's now or never, just take your raincoats. The crowds might be lighter than normal.

My husband is stressing out over our trip in two weeks. Hope Florida gets a break by then.

Sheila

We're still just watching and waiting, before we make a decision. we may take an alternate route that will have us considerably farther inland (75) than I 95. Yeah, I think the St. Augustine stopover is the first thing that will change. We also may try to get to SC by Sat pm; wake up Sunday and decide which way to go. DO YOU GET THE IMPRESSION I NEED THIS VACATION?!:crazy2:

They were closed on Saturday AND Sunday due to Frances. The way things look, they will close Sunday.

Gov. Bush just said its going to be nasty on the east coast starting about noon today. He even thought it could be bad in Gainesville when the Gators game lets out, but he did mention that he is a Miami Hurricanes fan. Are they talking about closing early today? Good news is that it will be over in a hurry.

We're goin' for it guys! Heading out early tomorrow morning. We know we'll meet Jeanne somewhere along the way; but we're hoping that we'll either be stopped safely overnight (hotels A, B, C and D reserved) or she'll be a tropical depression, and we'll be on the far outer edge. It might be an interesting trip report....megan:umbrella:

Greetings from Savannah! We are halfway to Orlando, but the worse is yet to come. Please, please all you Fl residents, be safe, and we are on our way to do our part in cotributing to the tourist economy. With any luck, at this time tomorrow we'll be at Margaritaville! Regards, megan
