Jean ideas for 11 yr DD (non low rise)

The best 2 jean shopping years I had were when my 3 girls wore flair Lee jeans from Kohls. (middle school and elem school age)

I have also bought Arizona jeans at JC Penney, Gap, and limited Too has some non-glittery jeans.

American Eagle also does multiple cuts... most tend to be tighter, but if you went for the Wide Leg style (I think that's what they were called!), they're looser around the leg. AE jeans are good quality and last me a good long time. It's pretty much the only jeans I wear now.

I'm a bargain shopper so when we go to Hollister, we look for the clearance! Sometimes they will have jeans for $9.99. I've found that the "tall" versions seem to come higher up on the waist. I'm happy with the higher waist and price and my daughter is happy with the brand. Do you know how rare it is that everyone is happy?!

She's a more petite kid. A "long" version of jeans trails on the ground about 12 inches after her feet end. She tried two LONG pairs yesterday and the were like denim tails!

I'll check the clearance in Hollister though. We only find tops there in the dark back room. Are the jeans usually hidden folded up?

No she hates Old Navy. They are too tight as well.

We've tried: Old Navy, LL Bean, American Eagle, Aeropostale, LEI, Mudd, (other jeans brands at Kohl's), Lands End (at Sears) and Abercrombie.

She hated them all.

Any other ideas?

That's too funny. I'm reading this thread and thankful that DD9 hasn't hit this stage yet. I'm sure next year in middle school I will run from store to store just like the OP. So far DD9 is not into any particular brands and the kids in her classes aren't either. Makes shopping much easier...

Sorry, I left out the fact that you'd probably have to cut them off and hem them like I do or have someone else do that but yes, they are just folded up in the clearance section along with the other things on sale. Although I cut off 6 or more inches, the knee holes aren't too far off target and work out OK.

have you tried the higher rises at american eagle?

The true blue i think they are called. I'm a teenager and absolutely despise low rise and they fit really well. Also i read she doesn't like old navy but the sweetheart style from there fits a little higher up and are still very fashionable. My sister is her age and seems to only want the lower cuts. If she likes skinny jeans you could try pac sun and tillys. They seem to be a little higher up and they always are a little more stretchy in the hips and everything. They both can be a little pricey though.

Best of luck to you! From your posts, it sounds like there are only about three stores that will be acceptable to you and your DD so she is not viewed as "uncool". It seems that she needs to try on every style that each store offers since she is unwilling to buy a pair of jeans that might fit her from a store that is "ick". Have her try on different sizes of each style, and consider having them altered. If every pair of jeans at a store she finds acceptable are too tight, she is either in the wrong size or does not have the body shape that the store is targeting. If she hates them all, she might reconsider what she can live with in middle school. Depends how important it is to her to have jeans that everyone else has - those are tough years to be different.

I don't look forward to those days when my DD's are in middle school!

They are $59-89! We looked there today. I did find a pair at Plato's closet for $18 but we held off.

We actually found ONE PAIR!

She can not fit into a 00 or a 0 in some stores. We went to about 8 stores and found one pair at Plato's and one in another store.

We will buy the pair at Plato's soon. (line was too long!)

Don't even get me started on my son. He likes the extra slim pants.

It's not that expensive if you wait for a sale. They are very well made jeans.

My DD is petite and a little smaller than most her classmates. She loves the $9.99 ones from Target (you can't tell where they came from) because they are so soft. They come in slim, too, so sometimes kids can wear the slim one size up instead or a regular size. Also, I recommend Arizona Jean Co.....I tried to read through all the posts and make sure your DD did not hate those!!
It's funny that mine could care less about the brand name on her pants but will only wear ONE brand of tshirt, practically!!!!

Maybe get her a bigger size? The style is fitted (same as when I went to middle school in 1980). My dd12 is 5'2", and wears a 2 short in AE - they're fitted, but comfortable. I got some Guess jeans, size 4, at TJMax, but I need to get them hemmed. I'm personally not a fan of low rise (after 5 kids - LOL), but I think a girl might feel a little dorky with high rise jeans.

DD11 and I were just jeans shopping last weekend. We went to TJ Maxx and had her try on about 10 pair - all different sizes. She ended up with size 4 Guess jeans as well. She liked the fit the best. She's tall (nearly 5' 7"), and many of the 2's and 4's were too long. I don't know who fits into those because she has super long legs. She also has 2 other pair, also from TJ Maxx that still fit from last year, but I don't recall the brands. They had AE jeans at TJ Maxx, but DD didn't like them so she wouldn't even try them on. They also had Hollister, but they were the super-ripped ones so I wouldn't let her get them. All her jeans are low rise however - she prefers them that way. We're planning to hit Old Navy for jeans soon- they were wiped out around here last weekend because they had just had their $12 jean sale (which we missed). Best of luck - I feel your pain!
