Yes,this is budget board related.

My soon to be 11 year old is going into 6th grade next week. (Turning 11 on the first day of school).

We did the dreaded chore of jeans shopping. She can still fit in size 14/16 and she likes the Justice brand. I usually don't mind them as well since they don't do low rise or anything like that.

Well Justice is OUT for middle school. We went to American Eagle and she tried on 00 and 0 pants as well as 2 just for fit purposes. She's short so a 0 short fit her but she hated the "tightness". We went to TJ Maxx and she tried on some 14-16's and hated the "tightness" as well-- this is the low rise cut that is very common. We also looked at Plato's closet and found some 0 and 1's that were too "tight".

Where can I buy in her words "non-ugly, non-tight normal" jeans? It's driving me crazy.

Maybe try Old Navy. The have really cute jeans in both kids and junior/women's. They have several different styles with some low rise and some "normal".

No she hates Old Navy. They are too tight as well.

We've tried: Old Navy, LL Bean, American Eagle, Aeropostale, LEI, Mudd, (other jeans brands at Kohl's), Lands End (at Sears) and Abercrombie.

She hated them all.

Any other ideas?

My DD7 is the same way. If you find a place, please let me know. :rotfl: We did the jean thing for 5 hours one day, and we still have no jeans.

My 11 year old likes the jeans from the Children's Place.
"slim bootcut"
These are the only ones she'll wear.
This style sits at the waist, but be careful because they do sell styles that are lower cut.

Just looked at the website and they're on sale, too.

DId you try a dept store such as Macy's? i find that their prices are not as high as people think if you hit the sale right. they have multiple brands.

i would love to recommend more brands/stores but my daughter is 10 and is also really picky about her jeans. and the only jeans that fit her well and that she likes are 7 for all man kind. they are a high end designer brand and they cost A LOT. but i spend the money because they fit her very well and she can usually get 18 months or 2 years out of a pair. she usually grows up and not out so we fold them in year one and in year 2 the length is perfect...

i can usually get away with getting her one or 2 other pair of jeans from justice or old navy but not always.

good luck!

How about Levi's? (Or am I old for thinking this? :lmao: )

No Children's Place-- that is a great suggestion, but they are according to her "ick".

We did try some Levi's at TJ Maxx today but she hated the 'stretch' feeling. They had no Levi's in non stretch.

This is the first year she's ever been picky about jeans. I wonder if she can get by with sweatpants.

We always had luck at Limited Too.

LTD and Justice are OUT for middle school. We've always had good luck there but you can't wear them in middle school according to other kids.

Did she try all the different fits at Aeropostale? My daughter wears the Hailey fit...but I have noticed that not all Hailey's are the same! She wears a 3/4 so I thought I could just buy the jeans without her being with me. So this week I picked up 2 pairs as they were 50 percent off. When I got home, I asked her to try them on and only one pair fit! They were different washes and had different stitching on the pocket, but were the same size Hailey jeans. It's really odd.

I'd try Aeropostale again this week if you can. I know the Bayla (skinny jeans) fit run a lot smaller than the Hailey. The curvy Hailey come up higher in the back than the regular Hailey, and the Chelsea are lower rise than the Hailey. We have never tried the Avery (wide leg) as my daugher hates those.

My DD is going into 7th grade. Our Middle School starts in 5th grade (I know I hate that!) and Justice and The Limited Too are NOT cool anymore according to the middle schoolers. Most kids wear Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch, Aeropostale and American Eagle. It can get pricy! I like Aeropostale for the prices and try to get our basics there...jeans, camis,tanks... The t-shirts and more visible items come from Hollister and Abercrombie.

Good luck finding jeans! I know it can be a pain. My DD9 refused to wear them at all, and lives in sweats!

Maybe, I'm reading your post wrong, but it doesn't sound like your daughter has a problem with low-cut jeans, but tightness (or is it you who has vetoed low cut?)

The only reason I mention that is because tightness has nothing to do with jeans being low rise. Higher waisted jeans can be just as tight as low rise jeans. It sounds like she wants a more relaxed fit, which may or may not be low rise.

I'm short and wear a 0 like your daughter. If she doesn't like tight, try Gap's Long and Lean jeans. It's more of a relaxed fit. I don't like them b/c they're not tight enough. ;) I like my jeans to be form fitting, but not tight (i.e. hint at the figure, but not painted on). A 0 short or 0 petite might fit her. She might like them, even though I think they're too big.

Gap has other styles as well that might work.

Aeropostale 00 short Haileys, and I agree that they are not all the same. This is too weird and makes it impossible to buy without them with you. I bought DD11 some Old Navy jeans back in April right before school was out. THye fit okay. I went back in right before school started three weeks ago and the same jeans in the same exact size are now 2-3 inches longer! WTH? We hate Justic brand ones, they always shred right at the front pockts for some weird reason.

She only tried one pair and one type of cut. I'll go back there with her. I know what the other middle school girls wear because I have an 8th grade son. However, he's a boy and that's a different thing.

She has room in the waist but she didn't like the way it felt in the behind area adn the seams. I know all the pants she tried were low rise.

Do you have a Buckle store near you? As adults, we love their jeans because of the variety of styles. I know a lot of teens around here shop there for jeans. The stores carry a BKE brand of their own (they are the cheapest) and those are the ones I get. BUT, I am old and need jeans that are not ultra low rise :scared1: - those are found in the front of the store! Good variety and employees that are very knowledgeable about their styles and fits. Just tell them what you are looking for and they will find it!!
Good luck - my dd5 is obsessive with jeans right now, but she throws a fit if they are not tight enough. We just had a meltdown tonight because they are a 5 slim, with the adjustable waist cinched as tight as possible and they still were not tight enough for her. I thought they fit perfect (and secretly wished I could wear a pair of slim pants that are loose). Apparently it doesn't get any better??

She might like the Hailey curvy fit at Aeropostale as they have more room in the behind without having a huge waist, and they have a higher rise in the back.

Good luck!!

Maybe get her a bigger size? The style is fitted (same as when I went to middle school in 1980). My dd12 is 5'2", and wears a 2 short in AE - they're fitted, but comfortable. I got some Guess jeans, size 4, at TJMax, but I need to get them hemmed. I'm personally not a fan of low rise (after 5 kids - LOL), but I think a girl might feel a little dorky with high rise jeans. :confused3

Yea Childrens place is out once they get past 3rd grade here. My daughter will not wear ANY jeans, never has. She ends up with sweats, dressy type "soft" pants or those stretchy ones that Justice sells. Its hard even with those at Justice since they seem to put the butt writing on many of their clothes and we don't wear/buy clothes with writing on the butt. I see no reason to call attention to my 8/9 year olds butt!

I have had the same problem with jeans with DD8. We ended up going with Plus Jeans at the GAP. I hated doing this as she has no problem wearing regular sizes of any other brand. She is tall for her age, and she has a broader shoulders, a bum and thighs but no belly (think swimmers/athletic build). The doctor always says she is right on track. Well, the plus size at the GAP gave her the looser fit, not skin tight fit, she wanted in the thighs and bum and then because of the adjustable waist we could make them tighter at the waist so they were comfortable all over.

GAP is out as well. There is a acronym for GAP that is well known over the middle school set.
