jeafl's MIL Christmas Guft thread 2010

One year my then-future-DMIL gave me an ivory turtleneck, an oversized red corduroy shirt, and black leggings (if you are picturing the outfit, please know it was the 80's and you may understand it better).

The problem? It was the same thing she had given me the year before. She gave me the exact same present two years in a row. It wasn't just similar - it was an identical outfit!

All I could ever figure is that she must have come across her shopping list from the year before, thought it was her current list, and went out and did her shopping!

My grandmother once gave my mom a pair of ceramic cow head kitchen towel holders.

My parents used to buy us one big gift and then some smaller, incidental kinds of things. One year, my mom was poking through my presents wondering why she hadn't heard me comment on my big gift (maybe a tape player??). Because it wasn't there. She's placed it at the top of a closet and forgot to wrap it. I hadn't even noticed I didn't have a "big gift". :rotfl:

And to whomever found the picture of the Cookie Monster sweater, THANK YOU SO MUCH! I came across the old threads awhile back and was DYING to see what that sweater looked like.

As I am patiently waiting for the annual MIL thread I will share my own horrible gift.

A few years ago my IL's gave me an industrial size box of aluminum foil folks. You know the ones that come from Sams club. Took me til July of the following year to finish it off:lmao::lmao:

Kids and DH got great gifts. HA! I know where I stand.

I have an aunt, whom I genuinely like and respect, who is also gift-challenged. My 18-month-old received a box of small, choking-size magnets. She always writes notes on the packages that let you know what is inside, which I have never understood. However, the best was receiving my uncle's used slippers. My poor uncle was deceased! The worst part was I am overly sensitive about throwing away presents, so I didn't feel I could get rid of them...

Anything yet?

Heather, were your ears burning a week or so ago? When I was at the park with Michelle and Christine, your name came up. :cool1:

I think it was usually a week or so before Christmas :confused3
I do hope we see the pictures again!!!
It was something I really looked forward to on the dis.
It is the dis holiday tradition!!!

I agree - I am getting antsy waiting on the thread! popcorn::

Yes, Dan...:) I am now in Florida for Christmas and Michelle filled me in. I spend more time on Facebook these days, but I heard that y'all discussed that, too.

Merry Christmas to all! :santa:

Waiting hopefully for the 2010 edition too!

Meanwhile my aunt used to give my brothers and me some strange things too. One year it was a string of bells for each of us. It was more like a rope with 3 or 4 bells and about 3 feet long....:confused3 We were ages 11, 16, 21. WTH do 15 and 21 year old boys do with a string of bells? A couple of years later we all got incense burners. Mine was in the shape of a bird, one of my brothers was a camel. I forget what the other one was. Once we caught on to how totally off the wall her gifts were we really anticipated them each year.
