Hello all.
This is my first attempt at a trip report(being our first trip) so I hope that it passes your stringent qualifications.
The cast: Me(jdads2), my DW (Dwofjdads2), Anthony (DS age 10), Drew (DS age 7), Sara (DD age 4).
Pre-trip:
We cant find the birth certificates or the social security cards for the kids!!! We cant get them onto the plane without proper identification!!! Its too late to get them any other kind of ID. We called the Buffalo airport and were told 3 different things by 3 different people. I finally got hold of someone who sounded like they new what they were talking about and asked what ID we did have. We have their IDs with their fingerprints and their immunization records. That sounds good to me is the response. After getting her name we relaxed a little.
The kids knew that we had to change our flights so we let them think that we were leaving on Monday instead of Saturday morning. Thank goodness, they had a tough time getting to sleep as it was, so I know it would have been impossible for them to sleep if we had known they were a mere 15 hrs from WDW!!
So we get the kids up at 5:30 and theyre up like a shot. We get to the airport without a problem and through check-in without a problem .they never asked for the kids ID. It was the kids first trip on a plane and the boys giggled and laughed through take-off. It was really hysterical! The plane ride was uneventful, except that my DD had an ear infection and her ears wouldnt pop so she cried sometimes. By the time we were getting off the plane she was too excited to worry about her ears.
Brian, our driver from Tiffany Town Cars, met us as we were going to get our luggage(it was in the area furthest into the airport you could get to without a ticket). He escorted us to baggage claim and helped us find the proper area to be in to get our luggage. It was like my parents were there to help us out and take care of us .it was effortless. When we return we will definitely use Tiffany Town Car.
What more can I say about pulling up to and walking into the Poly for the first time WOW!!! Check-in is almost too efficient. They move so fast we almost didnt have time to breathe. We got there at about noon and were told that our room wouldnt be ready until about 3 or 4. No problem. We decided to hop on the monorail and get our APs at MK!!! So we head up to the 2nd floor of the Poly to catch the monorail. The sliding glass doors open and my 7 yr old son darts through and runs to toward the monorail gate. An attendant promptly scolds him for running. Drews face drops to the floor (he is highly sensitive) and the attendant says Thanks for listening, Would you like to ride in the front of the monorail? Hows that for dumb luck? Our first ride on the monorail and we get the front actually there is only room for 4 so I do the noble thing and let everyone else ride the front.
We get to MK and get in line, 2 people deep, for our APs. As we walk up the only other person now in line is waited on and another walks away leaving an open window. I wait a few seconds to be called over and then the window closes. Another window clears and then immediately closes. Its close to lunch so I figure that they are off to eat. A guy, who came in just after we got in line, starts yelling and swearing about how busy he is and how they shouldnt close windows when there are people in line waiting (2 people?). Another window opens and I hurry over and get our passes. Easy as that. I didnt wait to see how Mr. Charming did. We were going to go to Epcot because that was on our itinerary, but we were already at MK so we went in. You know how the kids were. Im sure most of you have seen the looks. We start walking down Main Street and decide to grab a quick lunch at the hotdog stand on Main St. We got 4 footlong dogs and 4 cokes. We sat at the tables in back just to relax a bit and to plan our next move. I was surprised that the hotdogs were decent. We decide to head to Fantasyland and as we head to the castle we run into Baloo, Geppetto, Pinochio and the King and Queen themselves, Mickey and Minnie. WE HAVE OUR AUTOGRAPH BOOKS BACK AT THE HOTEL, STILL PACKED!!! We did get some great pics though. Dont you worry, later we were able to get everyones signatures. Next we headed to Dumbo where we encountered our longest line of our trip, yes this does include the line waiting for everyone to clear through airport security!! Forty minute wait for Dumbo!! We took it in stride saying, This is what you have to put up with if you want to go to WDW.
After Dumbo we headed back to the Poly and found that our room was ready. We unpacked and collapsed for an hour before heading to the Rose and Crown for our dinner and Illuminations. Guess what? We were told if you request a window table at R&C and one is not available you go to the end of the queue, if one isnt available on your second try, you go to the end of the queue again, etc. Bottom line is you can request a window table and specify that you can wait but it doesnt matter. A table at the window and your space in line may never match up. So we were advised to go to Germany, Italy, Morocco, and just about every other country in order to get a good view of illuminations. We ended up going to Japan. We watched the drummers then got a front row seat for Tapestry of Dreams and turned around to get an unobstructed view of Illuminations!! The combo of Tapestry of Dreams and Illuminations was by far the best thing that we saw on our trip. On the way out, we sat for a while and danced our way out of the World Showcase to the piped in music, we stopped at the sparkling sidewalk in front of Innoventions. Quite a magical first day and evening.
