JAZZERCISE or "Oh! My aching calves!!"

So one of gifts DH gave me for Christmas was a GC to the local Jazzercise class - enough for a 10-week session. He decided that a GC would put an end to my procrastinating about signing up which I talked about doing for a number of months now (something like 18 months!).

Well, yesterday I attended my first class. Sunday morning at 9 a.m. Halfway through I thought I was gonna pass out, and I was doing the LOW intensity workout! I can't believe people subject themselves to this type of torture!! I think one of the reasons I did feel so awful was because I had absolutely nothing to eat prior to going.

Anyway, TODAY, every time I get up and walk around, my calves start screaming at me: "What the hell did you put us through yesterday!?!?" How can I tell them that they are going back again tomorrow????

Anyone here ever do Jazzercise? I would love to hear of your experiences with it.

I'm proud of you. I've never done jazzercise before.

I used to Jazzercize back in the mid 80's and loved it. Just take it slow at first....and remember to really stretch out afterwards. It will get easier.....I remember times we would stay for back to back sessions.

One time, my boyfriend (now DH) came for a session and pooped out halfway through it.

I now do Contours Express...which is similiar to Curves....I like to be able to work out "when I want to"

Thank you both for the support and the advice. I'm suppose to go to an evening class tonight but my calves are still killing me. We will see if they get better during the day today.

Already late for work but wanted to bump this up to see if any of the DIS morning crew ever did Jazzercise.

Do you think putting myself through this torture is really gonna make a difference? I want to lose about 15-20 lbs. and build up some stamina.

Poor Tuli. Pixie Dust for those achy muscles.

I realize this week I've been slacking a lot. Some shoveling and an achy back has proved how out of shape I become.

I have done Jazzercise on and off for a few years. I did it after DS8 was born and it helped me get back into shape. But back then I was younger! I started up again before Christmas and made it to a few classes. I was having lots of problems with behind my calves - no matter how much I stretched. I am debating wether to start up again. (We are planning on re-joining the YMCA and I'm not sure if I want to do both)

What I really like about jazzercise is that you get an aerobic workout AND you get some toning. I like working out with the hand weights. Years ago when I did it I also used the leg weights, but now I have enough weight on my thighs so I don't need to add any more. For me it's convenient right now because I can take the class while DD is in pre-school and it's right down the street.

It IS a good workout but you need to find what works best for you. It will hurt for a while but should be ok if you stick with it. I like the step class but the instructors are masochists! (sp?) I hide in the back. All the young girls in lycra are in the front row. :)

I used to go five days a week, monday through friday. Stick with it, it's a lot of fun once you get the moves down. The only reason I don't go now is because I can never get to class on time. When I worked I would go straight from work. Now with a 4 year old and a 15 month old, it is hard to get anywhere on time.

I don't Jazzercise, but I love when my calfs hurt after exercising. I love that feeling! :teeth: I'm weird, I know. :teeth:
