Jaws replaced by transformers! Annoyed!!

I can't even imagine when it might fade. I was just leaving my 20s when I first heard of HP, I'm now 43 and still love reading the books and watching the movies. Now I have my son, who is 8, and is still in the process of reading the books and watching the movies, and I'm sure will read them over and over again as he grows up and understands different aspects of the books. I'm quite sure he'll introduce them to his kids...

I wonder sometimes about Pixar overload at DLR and WDW...but I don't worry at all about the Wizarding World stuff at Universal.

Its always ironic to me when Disney fans talk about Harry Potter as being popular only in the short-term, while Disney just opened an attraction based on two 20+ year old movies....they're still "popular" because Disney says they are.

That's only because Disney didn't get it...according to the fanboys. If Disney could have landed HP, it would have been the greatest score ever. :rolleyes1

That isn't how they're going about things...They're adding a new Transformers, expanding "Springfield" in the Simpsons area, adding at least one or two possible attractions in Jurassic Park, possibly a new attraction in Seuss Landing...possibly a new waterpark and lots of other stuff.

Universal said last year they are spending $1.5 Billion in things at the Orlando parks and less than half of it is being used for these projects so far, as far as what I've heard.

Hatetofly, over at Orlando United, just posted this article regarding the refurb of Jurassic Park. Sounds really great...

It seems like one of the biggest complaints I've read on the Disney side of the board is the homogenization of the food/merchandise....especially the merchandise. I think what Universal is doing is pretty freakin' smart.

I was one of those folks that absolutely dreaded it when I heard that Comcast was buying it out, but it looks like a very good thing at this point.

The fact that they committed 1.5 B over 10 years (that doesn't include the hotels) and still have 850 million left after Transformers and the new Harry Potter expansions, is very exciting.

I think they had a eureka moment with butterbeer and wands. Smart marketing is key.

I love the idea of putting a ride into the Discovery Centre. I think anytime you put a omnimover in, the area becomes much more attractive. I always thought that if Poseidan's Fury would have included some sort of peoplemover, it would have been much more popular.

Harry Potter stuff is basically just fantasy. Even if nobody knows who Harry Potter is, fantasy will still be popular. It is basically just dragons and magic wands and the good guy vs. the bad guy. As long as the rides are excellent, the characters don't matter. Many excellent rides at Disney are very much a case in point...Haunted Mansion, Spash Mountain to name a few.

I totally agree, it`s not going to get old anytime!!
Most people I know don`t know the story behind Splash Mountain.....but it`s still a great ride regardless.

All sounds great doesn`t it :thumbsup2

Again I totally agree with everything you said. Those stories will be around for a long time. And no, Universal has nothing to worry about investing a lot in HP.

Both of you are spot on......as usual ::yes:: ::yes::

That really does sound amazing. I can`t wait to see it all happen.

It's funny my 5 and 6 year old really didn't like Jurassic park ( the movie) until after our trip. Now they both love the movie and talk about the parts that they "went to" on our trip and what dinosaurs in the movie are their Dino's (they each got to name a hatchling in the discovery center) so sometimes the enjoyment of a movie new or old is sparked after the theme park exposure . I think the same can be said for Harry potter after being in the potter world some people will want to see the movies / read the books

Totally agree. My friends and I first went to the WWoHP shortly after it opened; they all played trivia with each other, knew everything the stores referenced, etc. I had only seen the movies, and could barely remember what Hogsmeade even was and felt so left out! After going I decided to read all of the books and became obsessed :goodvibes

Figured they would do a refurb on JP when a new movie is coming out in 2014

Maybe its me, but does it seem like a short period of time to make a movie that doesnt have any characters, director or a script yet?

I haven't seen any Harry Potter movies but the book series is one of the best and most memorable I've ever read. We visited Universal and Disney last summer and had a wonderful time. Forbidden Journey is my new favorite ride. I can't wait to see how amazing the new expansion will be. We were totally blown away by the area at IOA. We are big Universal enthusiasts and had a great time at both their parks and at Disney.

Transformers is located across from Rip Ride Rockit and beside Shrek in the location the used to house different things but for the last many years has been empty. Monsters Cafe is at the front of it.

Jaws is being replaced by London and will include a Gringott's roller coaster as well as Diagon Alley and a Hogwarts Express that will travel between the two parks. This area has not be announced yet (to keep people from postponing their vacations) but many details have been leaked.

Harry Potter land is nowhere near Jaws though? It's in IOA not US???:confused3:hippie:

Diagon Alley will be in US. Hogsmeade is in IOA. The Hogwarts Express will travel between these two areas (hence the two parks).

On that you would have to talk to Hollywood cause I would imagine they already have a script and director or they would have not announced it

I saw a photo of a sound stage shooting schedule chalk board a year ago that said Jurassic Park 4 was inside. It seems to have been in some sort of pre-production for quite a while even though not officially announced until recently.
