Jaws closing for good on Jan 2

Just my opinion, but I really don't think it's a second HP-themed area. Seems like trying to jam a square peg into a round hole. LC makes far more sense for the expansion.

Since Coup apparently took Transformers off the table, my next guess is some kind of LotR-themed area--perhaps Hobbiton. Not influenced at all by my supreme love of Tolkien, of course. ;)

I will be heartbroken if it goes ahead. They planned to close the ride in 2005 and the overwhelming number of complaints halted them. If you're someone who wants this ride to stay, be sure to email them - the response will be computer generated but don't be discouraged. There's also a petition. I just hope Universal can see how much this ride means to guests. Sorry if the linking is not permitted.

I am so glad that my wife and I got to experiance Jaws the Ride before it was closed, but sad our kids wont get to enjoy it(fall 2013). Now, if I had a choice of what was going to go there, I would hope that they would build the King Kong 4D Ride like the one opened at Universal Hollywood.

I don't think any number of emails, letters, faxes or phone calls is going to make any difference. This is going to happen but I think Universal will build something bigger and better than Jaws as its replacement.

The best thing to do is to accept it and move on. I am very excited to see what's coming next.
:thumbsup2

Wonder if they will do anything special for the last ride. We will be there till 1/4 and may try to ride late on the 2nd.

Exactly. Universal is a business. If Jaws was losing them money and something else can make them money, then Jaws is going to go. This was a well studied decision.

I would LOVE a LotR-themed area... and Jaws gives them plenty of space for a killer land. I took the Universal "blue sky" survey a few years back that asked about a LotR-themed land, and the questions went beyond the usual "would you be interested in..." stuff and asked about actual details, like if I'd want to visit Helm's Deep, etc.

I believe I got similar questions, which is why my hopes are up. :thumbsup2

...not to mention two Hobbit movies coming out between now and the end of 2013. They wouldn't get a LotR land finished by then -- I don't think -- but certainly the franchise is about to get a lot of attention again over the next several years...

Twilight was also on that survey(and Avatar)!!!

If Twilight got added, I'd definitely tear up my AP and never return...

There's only one Twilight that should exist, and it ends with "Zone"

Do we really want to confuse people with Gandalf AND Dumbledore?? Maybe throw in some Dobby AND Gollum?? I think not. LOTR would be a huge waste of time and money.

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but - I don't think there is anyway Harry Potter nor LotR could possible fit in Universal logically. With the areas based on cities (or a World Expo), how could we jump from New York, to San Fran, to LotR/Harry Potter, then back to Hollywood. It just wouldn't make sense the way it does in IoA. Now, the only exception could be if they themed it to London for Harry Potter, but even that is a stretch. Is it possible they won't theme it to the rest of the park as they should? Probably. But I definitely hope they don't ruin the whole them of the park, in my opinion.

We think alike.

Why not? Where do you think Rowling got some of her material? You already mentioned Gandalf/Dumbledore. Don't forget Nazgul/Dementors, and evil objects hanging around necks corrupting their wearers. ;)

As for Twilght--blech.

The park is barely themed as it is. The most recognizably New York piece of architecture is at MiB, on the other side of the park from "New York." New York, on the other hand, has a ride that takes you into Egypt. Amity is a part of San Francisco, despite the fact that the film Amity takes place in the northeast. And what's this "World Expo" thing anyway, and why is the Simpsons a fit?

So... the overall theme stuff wouldn't be any worse than it is now, IMO. Wouldn't be any better... but certainly no worse.

In any case, if they make a great land I don't care where they put it or how well it fits.

I can see it being Diagon Alley in London. Would be easy to make the transition and work quite well.

My thoughts exactly.

I still have a hard time seeing this. *IF* they did put Potter in Amity I don't see how they could possibly connect it to Potter-land in IOA -- it's just a logistical nightmare. Rearranging the backstage areas, tearing down buildings to do it, theming the areas so the people on the train or whatever feel like they're traveling through Potter world -- and all that would cut off one part of backstage from another. Not to mention ticketing issues. I have a hard time picturing this.
I thought Badge had some good ideas as to how the train ride could work between parks: "For those that don't know what King Kong 360 is, it is basically a large tunnel that wraps around nearly the whole train area (it stops below the track so the rider does not see where it ends). This tunnel then has a huge video screen wrapped around the whole tunnel and then video projection is played that wraps around the whole train. Basically they are able to totally wrap you (and the car you are sitting in) in a huge video so all you see is a video playing. It really transports the viewer to another place and time because of how well the effect works. The video projections could even be attached to the train or on a moving track so that way video is only playing when a car can see it and not always playing to save on some cost of projectors."

Some ideas I would like to add:
There's a backstage street that angles directly between the sections of the two different parks. If the train station loading area was a raised platform and once inside the train, it left into a tunnel which would have the King Kong 360 type wrap around video so you are immersed in the the projection of the English countryside, that train could travel at an elevated level through backstage within the tunnel, reaching the other side where it would unload/load passengers to head back the other direction. Since there have been attacks to the Hogwarts Express in the movies, I'm guessing the ride itself could be quite a thrilling time, as well. They could have multiple things that could happen while on the Hogwarts Express so it is different each time you ride.
Once you add the elevated status to the tunnel, it makes it thru backstage without disrupting the use of streets and buildings there. They just have to have an emergency exit plan that will work. I know we are just speculating but to me it's a real possibility if they wanted to do it.

Not disputing that value of the ideas -- it's just that this seems to me the most complicated possible means of accomplishing the ends, assuming the "ends" in this case is the expansion of Potter.

And the more time/money/effort you spend on just the means, the less you have available for the rest of the project.

The simpler solution is to put Potter in the waste of space known as the Lost Continent and something else in Jaws/Amity.

Also, there seems to be an assumption that the closure of Jaws/Amity means they are going to use that entire plot for whatever they have planned. While I hope that's the case, I haven't seen anything to indicate that it's a given.

If they get rid of the Lost Continent, I hope they find a way to keep the Mystic Fountain. Best attraction in the park.

Well, Screamscape just updated with the monday update and it seems like based on his inside sources and digging around that we are in fact going to be getting a phase 2 of potter in the Jaws area themed to the London side of HP. Whats more, he also mentions the King Kong 360 idea I mentioned! I really, really hope I am right about that train ride because King Kong 360 is amazing and having a whole "train" ride to Hogwarts with that tech would just be mind blowing.

What more, based on what he has heard, Universal is going to work non stop to try and get this 2nd phase open by 2014. That would explain why we got such a sort notice with Jaws! They need to get working ASAP if they want this whole London area done in two years. He also says Universal will be making the offical announcement very soon. On the Hollywood part of the site he mentions that Universal will make the announement about the Hollywood version of HP as early as this Tuesday. Whatever day they announce Hollywood, they will anounce Orlando as well. So, hopefully on Tuesday we have some concept art and more details on the rides and experinces this new phase of HP will be bringing our way.

I personally am very, very happy about this 2nd phase because it really is the missing link. Plus, now I can get Butterbeer at both parks, so whenever I want one I no longer have to switch parks to get one! I just wonder if they will be able to top FJ with the new ride(s) in the London area. If anybody can do it, it is going to be Universal so I am looking forward to what they have up their sleeve.
