Jason Otter basketball camps?

Anyone have experience with Otter camps for their children? My son's coach recommended one for him and I'm looking for feedback. They look intense. My son wants to do it. Any reason why I shouldn't?

I don't know anything specifically about the Jason Otter camp but this is my experience with basketball camps over the past 20+ years of coaching basketball:

The big name camps are recruiting tools for division I teams. They are too big for most kids to really get good instruction and they tend to work with the best of the best. You pay big bucks for these camps and they are not worth the price. The kids like them because they usually have some popular college athletes that come in, say hi to the kids and leave.

Most Division III schools have the most worthwhile camps. Yes, they are recruiting tools for them too BUT you will get good instruction and the camp sizes are very reasonable. If you have a good division III basketball team in your area, that is the way to go.

Most high school coaches run camps as well. If you have a successful high school program, these camps are usually very reasonable and usually focus on fundamentals. They are also worthwhile IF you have a good coach. If your high school team is 1-17, not worth the money to go.

Yes, he's already enrolled in two Division III high school camps. Both teams have been very good for the last several years. The Otter camps are ball handling only, one day camps. They say they are NOT for beginners and yes they are expensive but our wonderful coach says they are worth every penny. Just looking for feedback from someone who's had specific experience with Jason Otter's camp. Our son is 13 and showing good basketball skills. Unfortunately, he is currently the tall guy so is playing down low. Eventually, there will be taller players and he'll need those point guard skills as well. Thanks!!!
