My collie Jasmine, (remember the one who poops in her crate, BTW, she hasn't done that for a long while) won a major reserve at the dog show today. She won her class. Then had to go back in with all the female winners to see who got the points. She was wild. I couldn't get her under control. So the judge gave her 2nd. She technically didn't get any points. But this is only her 4th and my 3rd show in breed, so I'm pretty darned happy. She beat out 2 of her breeders other dogs. Now the kicker! I got my pic taken with Jasmine and the judge, he told me if I could have got it together, we would have got the points. At least I know he likes her and I'll look for him again. When I told him we just started, he said well take some handling classes. I'm happy though! And we really ticked off some of our competition. LOL

How many do you need for a major in Collies in your area?

Please don't think I'm stupid, but I really don't know for PA. We showed in St. Clairsville OH and it was 16 for a major and there were 11 B****es. (Don't think I can say that word on the Dis) LOL I'm trying to learn, but this breed stuff is hard. I lined up in the wrong place for group, and all these points and all. Plus not to even mention all the grooming. Sheesh! When I just did performance, I though breed was soooo easy. Boy, was I ever wrong!

So glad to hear you're back in the ring!!! It sounds like a little fine tuning is all you need! You'll get there,PRACTICE! It DOES make a difference in showing . I was at a show this weekend(what's new!!!?!) and while I don't usually spend time at the breed ring,my SO was with me and was dying to see all the Dobies. I could easily pick the inexperienced handlers. Their dogs might've been awesome, but their handlers weren't moving correctly therefore, the dogs weren't.
When's your next show?

GO JASMINE!!!!!!

Great job. You'll get the hang of it. Just keep at it. We'll keep looking for those points to add up.

Our next show is in Erie PA in 3 weeks, then basically right in my back yard (show site is 15 min. away) the weekend after that. Handling class is tonight. Practice Practice! Thanks all for v the encouragement!

...dog show enthusiast here!!! Make sure you come back and post about the handling class. PAY ATTENTION! LOLOL

Congratulations! I just started showing my basset last year. He already had both majors and a couple of points. I did take handling classes -- it's not as easy as it looks, which is the idea!! Last August, I put a third major on him, and this past weekend I finished him. I'm thrilled, of course. But sad, too, that our journey is over. Charlie has taught me so much along the way, and I've made lots of new friends because of him. Now, I move on without him, and I know I'll miss him. I love my other dog to pieces (she took two reserves this weekend), too -- but I don't think anything will compare to my first experience with Charlie.

Handling classes will help. My teacher has very nicely whipped me into shape. Sort of. I still have a LOT to learn. But it's fun, isn't it?

Why don't you try obedience or agility with him? Then you can still do things together. Yea, its alot of fun. Alot of preparation though for about 10 min. in the ring. LOL Grooming a collie takes forever. Congrats Minnie!
