"Jarhead".... do you want to see it?

I just watched the Tivo preview....looks intense.

I probably won't go to the theater...DB has a super duper system and we just get ticked off at the theater....but will be setting up a movie night when it comes out on DVD (we only go see Star Wars and Harry Potter in the theaters now)

Semper Fi!

I want to see it but I won't. My exis a Marine and is trying to get back together with me. I know if I see it then I'll end up getting back together with him so he has someone to come home to. And we all know that is the wrong reason.

I do think I will buy the soundtrack, it sounds like great work out music.

From what I heard, the book the film is based on is very critical of war (or perhaps the reasons we went to the first war in the Gulf). If that's the case, I can't see how it could be considered a recruitment film.

As for me, I'm not sure about this one. I'm all for a good war flick (Saving Private Ryan is in My Top Ten Films of All Time), but I don't really like anyone that's in this one.

I don't know about the book being critical of the war, but from what my firends in hollywood have told me (that have seen screenings of the film already) the film is not critical or political. I am being told that it goes out of its way NOT to make a political statement either way, which IMHO is a shame. I hate that in this day and age artists lack a voice. Unfortunately the current politcal climate makes it impossible to make statements without ridicule. I wish it would make a statement either way, and I am hoping that my sources are incorrect. I want to like this movie a lot.

I dig Sam Mendes and his direction style, the photography looks fantastic and the cast seems spectacular!

I'll let you guys know what I think tomorrow night/friday morning when I finish watching it.

Cheers,
JJ

I'm not a big fan of war movies, but I may see this one. I like the song in the trailer "Jesus Walks" by Kanye West.

Thanks, I was wondering what that song was, it's great.

As soon as I saw the 1st commercial for it I said, I know dad will be there the day it opens...yep, he's a proud jarhead too.

I'll probably go see it with DH, since I know DS16 wants to see it and it's R rated. DS went to see Saw 2 last week and had to have an adult go in with them (thank goodness someone else's parent was willing to see that - I was definitely NOT going to see that!) This theater is very strict with the R rating.

While we (Americans) tend to love a war film, I can't help but wonder if this is nothing more than a recruitment film.

And the problem? :confused3

I have no desire to see it (except maybe on DVD) as I don't like movies like that but DH, a Gulf War 1 veteran, wants to see it very much.

I'm glad to hear it's not political cause we don't like movies like that...DH will be glad to hear that!!! That would have ruined it for him.

my boyfriend is/was a Marine, so he wants to see it.

And to be completely superficial, I want to see it because Jake Gyllenhal(sp?) looks sooooooo hot.

DH is a former Marine (9 years active duty, with time spent in the first Gulf War), and current member of the Air National Guard. He wants to see it, even though he didn't like the book very much. He said that what he went through was a lot different than the book. I want to see it because he always says to me "You don't understand what it was like, what I have been through" (I actually think DH suffers from PTSD from the war), and I want to know what it was like.

DH is coming home from Iraq next week and I'm sure, as a former Marine, he'll want to see it. As the saying goes, "once a Marine, always a Marine." I wonder if it will hit a little too close too home after just returning home though...

Worry not, Sam Mendes is nobody's tool.

If this film is half as good as American Beauty it will be amazing, but I'll wait for the DVD like I do most movies these days.

I could be completely wrong about the book being political. I just heard a little snippet about the book on some talk show and the clip was set up acting as if the book, while not critical of the military, was critical of the war. Not that if it were it would keep me from seeing the movie. While I really liked American Beauty and Road to Perdition and I think a lot of the reason I liked them so much was because of Sam Mendes' work, this one just doesn't look all that intriguing to me.

I just saw the movie today. My boyfriend and I both loved it.

It wasn't really political. One of the marine's did make a few comments though, and some others made comments when they were told how to talk to the media, but that's about it.

The one thing that stayed in my mind was it sure made military wives and girlfriends out to be a bunch of cheaters. Which I am sure most aren't.

But the movie was shot real nice. It was very real. Two thumbs up.

We also loved the soundtrack. Not sure if OPP was a hit yet during the war, I thought it came out later.

Great movie and for the Jake G. fans I think theres about three spots where he is full on naked (back side only of course) and once he is in a cute santa outfit...lol! DFiance' and I really liked it, pretty funny, sad, interesting, all in one. I would see it again on dvd.

My mom, dad, brother, and i went to see it today--i thought it was a great movie! I agree that it wasnt political, and i would definitely see it again when it comes out..

and yes..Jake G was very nice looking!
