I have a question. Is Japan's restaurant a hibachi style restaurant? I wasn't sure if they cook the meals in front of you or if it's a sit down and table restaurant.

I think you are referring to Teppanyaki (also the name for the type of "style" of the food & preparation). It features the large tables with the cooking surfaces and talented chefs who cook and entertain you simultaneously. Japan also boasts Tempura Kiku and Matsu No Ma Lounge, both very good eateries.

Not to sound like an idiot, but Tempura Kiku (1 restaurant) is where we'd like to go? We like the entertainment and watching our meal being cooked right in front of us. We've never had a meal in Japan and it's the only way my FW will go there and have dinner. I finally got her to try that type of food. Now she loves it!

We all love Japan and enjoy the cooking as well as the food. Someone told me however that they prefer Benihanna's at the Hilton to the Japanese restaurant at Epcot. Has anyone else had a chance to compare?

We just ate at Benihannas at the Hilton in Vegas. It was great. Can you take the Disney transportation to get the the Hilton?

At Tempura Kiko they do cook the food in front of you but not like at Benihana. Tempura refers to any food such as chicken, fish, veggies, etc that are covered in batter and fried. If I remember correctly the tempura is basically just served with rice. I think they do chop up the chicken before they batter and fry it but it's not quite as big of a production as at a Benihana type restuarant and the menu is more limited. It is also a very small resturant. I think there is just one big table that surrounds that cooking area. It is very yummy though!!

You might want to go to the Mitsokoski Teppanyaki, which is very much like Benihana. The chefs cook on the table and perform. They seem to especially gear their performances to the children. The Tempora Bar is small and most of the food is the fried version of Japanese food. Both are very good.

To get the hilton you would need to catch a bus at TTC or DD.

Mitsokoshi Teppanyaki is the place we're looking for. Sorry to ask, but where is TTC and DD? I'm still new to the board and don't know all the abbreviations. I tried a search but it's disabled.

TTC = Ticket and Transportation Center....
its a hub next to the magic kingdom where people go to catch buses to different locations.

DD = Downtown Disney. there is a hilton across the street from Downtown Disney. All the Disney resorts offer buses to DD.;)

ps....welcome to the boards:smooth:

I've been to the Teppanyaki for lunch, I thought it was great and didn't think it was over priced for what you got. Some chefs are more entertaining than others though I think.

As for the Hilton, you'd need to catch a bus to Downtown Disney Marketplace, and walk from there, and forget about the Ticket and Transportation Centre...last time I looked, they'd stopped most all buses from there (only Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom and MGM busses run from there) - to get to DD you need to pick up a bus from any WDW resort now, which is a pain in the bum.
