January weather

hi
yes we are from the u.k. and even we were cold in january this year, it literally was freezing, allthe water displays except for the rides were turned off and the plants covered in warm wrappings. it was like it for about three days. we went for a drive out and the orange groves were covered in icicles where the watering equipment had frzen as it hit the trees. i think last this jan was exceptionally cold, people were taken by surprise- i bet wallmart did a roaring trade in warm clothing :cold: :cold: :cold:

I noticed you had posted earlier you normally do January, and last years weather was a bit unusual. If that happens this year, I can only hope it will be only for a few days. I suppose I could look at the bright side...at least I won't be shovelling snow, right? Right? No snow shovelling? I hope somebody will put my fear of snow shovelling to rest. :rotfl:

We went the end of January this year. We took gloves and scarves and used them! We also took the hand warmers that you can put in your pockets or your gloves and they were wonderful! We layered (short sleeve pullover, denim long sleeve button up, hooded sweatshirt, light jacket), but still wished we had something warmer! Oh, and also long socks!

:cold: When it is so cold, you have to use "hot pockets", do the parks still operate as they normally would. I'm referring to the shows, parades, fireworks, and rides.

We have gone several times in Jan/Feb and it is very cool in the early morning and evening. You have to have gloves (.99 ones are fine), a touque (hat), jacket (or layered two sweaters and windbreaker), shoes/runners in order to venture out. Zip off pants to shorts are a great idea as well.

Forget swimming most of the time. We are from Manitoba, Canada and swimming in an unheated pool is not fun in Florida. Disney pools are always heated wonderfully and you HAVE to have it in writing that the hotel has a heated pool.

Upside to going is NO CROWDS!!! Better rates, etc. We far prefer it but do be warm. You will need a locker or stroller to put all the clothes you shed as the day gets quite warm! We do get down to shorts an tee shirt.

So, swimming may not be an option. Just as long as the pools don't turn into ice rinks, I'll be okay. :rotfl2:
I like the sound of no crowds and better rates. DH and I picked January because he doesn't like the heat or humidity we get in the Maritimes in summer. I prefer to be comfortable so I think Janaury will work out for us. I guess I won't plan to have too much of a tan. :goodvibes

Think layers!

Since starting this thread, I have received some great tips. I've been rethinking what I need to pack for clothes. And it looks like I will need a little bit of everything, so I can be prepared for any type of weather.
Layers work for me. I just keep hoping the afternoons will be somewhat warm, Like 70 degrees. :sunny:

hi
just finished working three nights, money towards the trip next january. yes the weather was very odd this jan and feb, i know everybody seems to blame the hurricanesbut it does seem to have left a trail of unsettled weather. this june seemed hotter than ever before = one extreme to the other. no snow though, just being in florida makes up for it all.!! although we do seem to jinx places, we went to cyprus a couple of years ago in january ,weather more or less the same as florida but wetter and it did snow; the first they had had at sea level for fifteen years. : :cold: :cold: :cold:

That's the best part of all. No snow. Well, hopefully, there won't be any snow!! :teeth:
I am sooooo looking foward to this trip. It may be the only time we go to the World, but I plan to make the most of every minute I am there.
