Of course no one can predict weather, but I'm wondering how much weight to give pool choice in deciding on a resort for an early January visit. If anyone can share their experience, I'd appreciate it. We -- dh, ds10, ds13 and I -- tend to be park commandos, but the guys also love to swim, so if they had the opportunity I'm sure they'd take it.

Thanks!

Welcome to the DIS!

January weather in WDW is completely unpredictable. You could have warm afternoons (in the 80s) with chilly mornings, or you could have mornings near freezing with afternoons in the 40s or 50s. Or you could have a little of both. Or you could have something in between....

My advice is, if you get a warm day, use it for swimming! There is no guarantee you will get another warm day while you are there.

Also check the local forecast when you arrive to see if the weather is trending warm or cold.

I would say for a january trip, don't choose your resort on the pool, not sure you'll be able to use it!!!

January 2006 we were at POR and used the pool once.

January 2007, was warmer, we even had the chance to go to Typhoon Lagoon, but you never know;)

This past January we went the last week- I wore my sandals twice.... we are not pool people per say...I would have spent more time at the CSR hottube but DH is not a water person AT ALL.

Like a previous poster said if it's a warm enough day use it for swimming because you might not get another chance.
I went this past Jan with my family and what I did was make several days flexible because of weather. We were fortunate enough to be able to go to Blizzard Beach one day(it snowed 5 feet at home this day hehe!) and swim at the hotel pool another afternoon. The rest of the days we had to wear a light jacket so swimming would not have been comfortable. They were nice sunny days though so it was very nice. Oh, we are from the midwest if that lets you know what we can tolerate.
Have a great time. We loved January and would go again.

5 feet of snow in KCMO??? :scared1: I don't remember that. I realize I live on the south and Kansas side, but I don't remember having that much snow here, EVER? Please tell me you don't live in KC anymore or that you meant 5 in. I really hate to think my memory is going already. :confused3

Yes it was a really bad day here. It was just this past Jan.
I can check my itinerary but I know it was around the 21st or 22nd. I live in Excelsior Springs but I'm sure it was all over around here. My Dh stayed home and I called him from BB and he was basicly snowed in at home with our baby. he didn't want to drive even to the store down the street.
By the way..........GO CHIEFS!

We went Jan. 10-18 this year, and weather was GREAT. We could have used the pools every day, and the cruise weather was perfect. In 2008 we're going Jan. 16-24, so have our fingers crossed for more good weather-luck!

:cheer2: GO CHIEFS!!!:cheer2: DBF met Brody's, the new QB, wife last week. That's all I've heard about. Ooops...Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Ok now it wasn't five feet! :) I think it was a little over a foot though.

Anyway... My husband and I go almost every January (this year 2006 was our exception) as we were married down there Jan 26, 2002. Everyone is right here, some times are cold some are very warm. In 2002 we wore shorts every single day, highs in the low 80's, the next year (2003) it was cold high in the upper 50's lower 60's, following year, pretty warm I think 70's (2004). 2005 is the year everyone thinks about when they hear cold January, the highs were in the 40's and lower 50's! It was very cold for Florida, and 2006, was again pretty average highs in the low 70's.

In 2006 we stayed at POP and used the pool, all other times we haven't. It really is kind of chilly and unless you really feel the desire to swim its not hot enough to really make it enticing.

Like others have said I wouldn't factor the pool in as a major factor during that time of year.
