Just an FYI for anyone who wonders why the heck I include all the day to day gas etc.. I am weak! I already wanted to go get more groceries yesterday (Jan 4) so if I did not do it this way I would be out shopping everyday. Thank you for providing me some accountablility and a place to record.

Should have been a no buy day, but I realized the passports for the kids just expired :scared1: so I went to print the forms for renewal and we are out of ink. :headache:

Ran to Walmart to get ink and figured I may as well get the items on the list that I planned to get there on Friday. Unfortunately, I forgot to check the ink cartridge for the number before I left the house and didn't know it in the aisle. :sad2: So DH will be buying the ink on the way home from work and I spent the above amounts.

Jan'14

1 - $6 Mc'donalds
2 - shopping day at farmers market, DH birthday presents and costco
3 - calling this a $0 day because of snowstorm. Edit DH went out so we have spent today on groceries and he got a hockey shirt for the game
4 - Arrrgh another spending day. DH is painting DD's room and needs more paint. I think that is all we will spend on today.
5 - Yarn at Michaels, toothbrush for dog and dividers for DD12
6- $0
7- few grocery items
8 - yogurt needed for curry chicken dinner & prescription but not counting that -
9 - calling it a $0 day as I don't intend on spending, wish me luck

Not doing that well in my goal of 20 no buy days

MomtoOne, you are doing great this month!!

It's definitely getting a lot harder as the week goes on! That vending machine at work starts calling my name every afternoon right about 3pm - the thought "it's just $1" runs through my mind over and over. And a friend at work keeps pushing me to go out to lunch - I have to say I have been REALLY tempted, but so far I have been able to keep to the "next week" line...Knowing that come Sunday I am free and clear to spend (in my normal, relatively conservative manner) is what keeps me going! I know I would have caved by now if it wasn't for that thought. I do like this approach so far - I'm great at short term denial, but find I cave easily if there's no end in sight. :rolleyes1

You do have good willpower and a well stocked kitchen.

I'm only counting my non-gas, non-grocery, non-bill spending. But I actually grocery shop only once every 2 weeks, and rarely make grocery stops outside of that - I'm a working, single parent, and don't have time for that nonsense! LOL (Meal planning is key and yes, keeping my kitchen stocked with my standard items is the only way it works!)

We started doing budget software and tracking our spending in Nov so we can beef back up our savings acct. (it took a large hit when we bout our house in April) I have to tell you, I was shocked, still am actually, at what we spend on groceries. Nov was over $900 and dec over $1100. We did have out of Town guests for both holidays though. So for Jan I am trying to do $600. I will keep adjusting the amount until we get it to something that we can live with.
