January No Buy - let's start the year off right

Failing miserably at the no buy thing this month. DH is just not getting the concept! I can't wait until he goes back to work tomorrow.
I need to tally the expenditures. Yesterday was an expensive day because DS13 needed all new clothes (jeans, school uniforms) and today I need to go get him new school shoes and sneakers.
Aw don't feel bad, we all have unexpected expenses. My DS best friend, who I consider a son, his parents went through a divorce at at age 11 and his dad pretty much abandoned him, anyways, he and his wife are having twins. His wife had ovarian cancer and took out one of her ovaries and she had a very miserable year with chemo and radiation. After all her treatments were done, she started feeling really icky again and thought her cancer was back. Nope she is pregnant. My family chipped in for the other crib they wanted and I. Had to buy 2 books, for the baby instead of cards.

We were also at Kohls, and my dd bought a bunch of clothes for work. I gave her my $10 Kohls cash.. I was going to buy the clothes and put it on my Kohls charge, but she opened up her own account today. I need to stay strong, she is 23 with a full time job, time to cut the chord. We went to Shopko for the books and the Dr. Suess book, "Oh The Places you Will Go" was $17. I didn't buy it, but found 2 others.

I sent my boyfriend to the store today to get a few things to tide us over until Wednesday (I think it might be too cold for this Florida girl to leave the house Monday and Tuesday of this week. I know we've got nothing on what's going on elsewhere in the country, but when the news hints that it'll be cold enough for snow, I stay inside, lol) ... however, sending him was a downfall because he spent $100 on junk. So, we will more than likely, go way over budget on groceries this month.

1/4: $0
1/5: $100

Grocery money: $100/$400
Fun Money: /$40
No Buys: 1/15

1/1 - $10
1/2 - $215 (this included going to the grocery store and the vet)
1/3 - $0
1/4 - $0
1/5 - $0

So far doing better than I thought! I like this thread - it's almost like a challenge to me!

1---$0
2---$0
3---$13 New curtain rod to hang the drapes that have been waiting to be hung since I bought them two years ago. $25 pizza dinner since the dinner I made with stuff from our shelves (trying to eat only from what we have) turned out to be.....not so good.

4---$0
5---$0
6---$0
7---$0

No buy days---6/15!!

Hi all - another old timer back for a new spin!

I'm going to take a slightly different tactic this time around than most folks. I normally give myself a $70 "allowance" each week to cover all my miscellaneous spending that I don't have other budget line items to cover. This is basically any non-bill, non-gas, non-grocery spending that I do during the week - mostly that is (1) my many Target runs (I should buy stock in the company), (2) take out/meals out and (3) impulse online shopping buys because I find a "great deal" on something (I really should ban myself from Slickdeals...)

I am pretty good about sticking to my $70 allowance each week, but I know a lot of it is still wasteful spending that I don't need to do. But trying to give up ALL take out, etc is just NOT going to happen - it's swinging too far in the other direction. So this year, instead of trying for no-buy days or minimal spending thoughout the entire month, I've decided to try doing one no-spend week a month. If I can pull that off for 11 months (December it just isn't gonna happen), I could save an extra $770. :dance3: The idea of going into hard-core denial mode for just one week a month seems a lot more doable to me. It will take a bit of planning - I will have to make sure I restock any necessities that would normally come out of that budget the week before or find a way to put off those purchases for a week, but those really are a small portion of what I spend my allowance on, so I don't think that will be a problem.

So this month, my no-buy attempt week is going to be this week. The only thing I can think of that I might need to buy during the week is Mucinex - I have a cold and only have a few days supply left. But I have a Target giftcard leftover from Christmas that I can use for that if necessary, maintaining the no-buy!

So, after that LONG explanation, here we go:
Sunday - $0 :cheer2:
Monday -
Tuesday -
Wednesday -
Thursday -
Friday -
Saturday -

Sick day = Bonus No Buy day, lol
Stayed home sick today so I am not out and about and tempted to spend extra $$
So this makes my 4th no buy day, my goal was 13 (Sun/Wed/Fri) days but actually may end up with a lot more than that

This sounds like fun! I'll play!
We started using YNAB on Nov 1, so I can go back and see what I bought recently. I don't necessarily need to count how many days I didn't spend, although the more the better, but just need to stick within our budget. This accountability will be great!
January:

I am killing it so far this month!! :woohoo:

January:
1$0
2$0
3$4.50 (post office), $8.25 (Walmart groceries $1.25 candy)
4$0
5$10 gas
6$42 (gas), $23 (groceries $1.80 Mt. Dew), $6.15 (post office)

I filled up my gas tank today, the goal is for it to last two weeks now so I need to cut down on unnecessary trips. The groceries I stuck to my list, but I did buy a bottle of Mt. Dew for me. I'm feeling a little bad about it because I'm cutting it out and haven't had one since Thanksgiving, but I wanted the caffeine today. The post office isn't out of my budget, it was an ebay purchase so the buyer paid it.
