Just got off the phone with Member Services. Wanted a studio for January 2 through 7, 2005. Had my choice of every resort on WDW property! Pretty cool! We took a preferred view at BWV. I am so excited -- Only 12 points a night for the two of us! Wahoo! I was really pleased to see that: 1) January had so much availability that we could select our location with ease; and 2) the points were so low!

Just wanted to share my excitement! Must go make a new ticker now . . .:bounce:

So will I simply be assigned a view upon check-in? Can I express a preference for a Boardwalk view? And, if I do, will it matter?

Your ressie has to state Boardwalk view if you have that view. So if you only got preferred view, you did not book Boardwalk. Call MS to see if any Boardwalk views are available for you to book.

You sound so happy to be going, and I don't blame you!

Hope so. That's when I'm planning on heading down. Last time I went was in May. Supposedly "Moderate" crowd time but too crowded for my liking. I'll be making ressies in about 10 days. Hope it goes as smoothly for me as it did for you.

We too enjoyed going in january. No crowds, but not a ghost town neither. However be prepared to pack warm and cool clothes. The week we came out(middle on month) florida hit a cold front, and we were freezing in out shorts. It was mmid 50's In fact it was cooler there than in my home town. The week we left, it went back up to 80s.

Well, that is really great!

Just wanted to share my recent experience with this time period (Jan 2-7). I called MS last night and we wanted a standard view 1BR at BWV and couldn't get it, so our second choice was SSR and were able to secure it. We're on a waitlist for standard view BWV -- I would love to be able to save that 20pt difference.

January is our favorite time to vist, but this year we will be doing early December again.

we were checking out of BCV, and called to see if we could "upgrade" at OKW to a 1bdr...no problem, arrived an hour later, and it was ready...

Love January...but don't tell too many people, we don't want the secret to get out!!;);)

We have visited several times in January, and it can be a great time - not too crowded. Just a few warnings, especially since you're from So. Cal. It can get quite chilly, even freezing, so bring warm clothes - it is rarely shorts weather in January, even in FL. Also, the parks close early each day, and usually the fireworks are only on weekends. And often you'll find a few rides closed down for rehab during this "slow" time.

That being said, if you are flexible and bring a good variety of clothes to wear, you should have a wonderful time!!

I just like to get away form the New England winter in January. We like VB at that time, but plan to mix it up with BWV then VB. I grabbed the last two BW view studios for our dates last week (just before the 7 month window - sorry guys - the waitlist may work tho).

The temps in VB are about 10 degrees warmer than in Orlando in mid-January; I would concur with Kerlynne on the packing issue, as you never know how cold it will get in Central Florida then. Two years back we had a couple of nights in the upper 30's at WDW:eek: , but it sure beat 7 degrees for those days back home.

Thanks for the tips. We will be travelling with extended family that are bringing a toddler, so the short park hours will be fine. We are hoping to keep this trip mellow -- lots of hotel time, sleeping in late, one or two rides and then nap. Then going out at night. So I think Boardwalk will be a good spot for all of that. We'll see.

I am just loving these insanely low point structures for studios. We don't cook while on vacation anyway and, for the two us, I love that it lets us stay for more days each trip. Very cool.

The pools are heated, however. When you see people swimming, ask if they are from Minnesota, Michigan or Canada :p

If you see something in any of the SSR pools that reminds you of the Christmas turkey thawing out in the sink, that will be me doing exactly that. It might not be pretty, but it's better than shoveling snow in southern Ontario.:sunny:

We spent 8 days this January at the BWV and had a wonderful time. The parks were almost empty and the weather was great.

Could also be our sister from Alaska! (If she's not at Typhoon Lagoon... Blizzard Beach is usually closed for maintenance in January.)

Good luck getting a Boardwalk view. I'm on the wait list for a 1 BR Boardwalk view for those same dates. But they said they had plenty of availability of preferred view villas. Have gone 3 previous times that first week in January and it's always been very cold-at least for us (we're from a part of the country that right now is actually hotter than Orlando!) Hope next January's different. Glad to see other DISers there.

We went January 04 and had a marvelous time. Busier than past years, but 75 degrees and beautiful almost all of our 10 days. Can't beat that. But you never know, so you must pack for all types of weather. Glad you could get what you wanted. :)

We used to travel in May all the time, but last year, my DW, DD, and DS went in January and left me at home :( They said that the weather was great (compared to Illinois and Chicago where we were located) and that the parks were near empty. I think that if you are looking for great park weather (cool, not hot), this is a great time to go. If you are looking for great swimming weather, it is okay (the pools are heated), but make sure the towels are close by for when you get out.

Because of their great trip, I am think of booking for January 2005 and leaving them home, Just kidding, we are all planning on going in January, hopefully my BWV closing will happen soon and we can get a 1BR (any view, just at BWV would be great).

Yeah, but since only seventeen people live in Alaska, your chances are better asking if they are from Michigan.

Seriously, we went in Feburary one year and it was COLD. But being Minnesotans, it was warm enough to swim. (We've been known to cut holes in ice around here - heated pools in 60 degree weather is a luxury!) Pool conversation was "what part of Minnesota are you from" Yep, eight people in the pool, all from different parts of Minnesota.
