January crowds....

I've looked at all of Hydoguy's tips and such, but I am wondering if anyone has gone during the 2nd week of January...I am going to be there on a Monday & Tuesday (Jan 10 & 11) and just wondering if most schools are back by that time? I know lots of colleges are still on break but most elementary schools around here are usually back in session by then.
It's my first time going during off season on a weekday so i have no idea what to expect crowd wise (I already know about reduced hours, less entertainment etc)

thanks :)

We've been those two days the last two years and are going back next year as well (DW's birthday). Crowds are very manageable. Only ride that required a significant wait was Toy Story last year, which was relatively new at the time. There were a few others that got backed up in the middle of the day, but if you plan the days effectively you can do everything you want to do with minimal waits. We were there for preceding weekend days, so my recollection of the crowd levels was somewhat impacted by Sat-Sun crowds. Things cleared out pretty well on Monday and Tuesday. As long as you are fine with the reduced entertainment and hours it is a great time to visit.

Thanks! :) & have fun on your trip!
Oh, and how was weather during that time? I've been looking through Anaheim's weather history and that time of January never looked too bad.

Conditions are often suitable for shorts and t shirts mid day. Usually a little chilly in the morning until 10-11, but it can feel quite cold at night when the breeze blows in from the ocean. We'll usually do a quick change into cold weather attire at the hotel right before or right after dinner to be prepared for the evening outdoors. We definitely purchase our share of hot chocolate at night.

If you want a more subjective metric than a weather website, there is rarely anyone on Grizzly Rapids all day and Splash Mountain has virtually no line early in the morning or later in the evening. Not quite warm enough to tolerate being wet for too long, even in the middle of the day.

I'll be there that whole week. I've looked at historic weather and there has certainly been a broad range over the last few years! We're coming over from Australia and luckily we will have our warmer weather clothes packed for our week in Hawaii, so we'll be covered for all weathers, just in case.

I think that time of year is very do able. If you have choices on what day of the week you go to the park. I would check out the AP block out dates. And avoid the days where all passes aren't blocked. DLR is a locals park, so it can get busy, even on off season.

To be honest I don't think there has been much of an off season the last 5 years or so. Off season now a days means, not as crowded. :rotfl: Off season use to mean no one was there.

Even if AP aren't blocked, it still should be the slowest time of the year. Have a great trip.

We intended to go in the spring, but I was weary of crowds since our trip must include a weekend. I checked on flights and got super cheap airfare for January 27-30. Then I was able to get the ENT rate for Hojo, so booking a trip was a no brainer.

Now I need to think crowds, ressies, clothes, etc. I am hoping HM is back up at the end of the month. I can't imagine a trip without it, but I will survive if it's still down.

I looked at historical dates and it seems there is a possibility of it being open that weekend. Any guesses?

I wonder what that weekend is usually like. My kids are off for MLK day on the 17th, plus a teacher workday on the 24th. Maybe I will luck out and have low crowds that weekend.
