Appears as though we will be staying offsite next trip due to extended family's must-do of Nickelodean resort :rolleyes1. The onsite FOTL are such an indulgence, will surely miss them but don't want to pay for EP unless absolutely necessary.

Have never visited MCO mid January, appears that Disney is relatively quiet other than the 'event' days, hoping that Universal will follow suit.

Will be visiting US on Saturday 1/11 (Disney marathon day). Does anybody know if that causes a spike in crowds @ universal with folks trying to escape 'the Disney crush'?

Back @ IOA on the following Thursday, hoping will be more do-able.

i pulled up easywdw site for more info last night.
i was reading on the motherland side that wdw has extended hours for all the parks for a lot of january.
expecting more crowds.
i'll be at the motherland prior to my darkside stay in january.

from my experience of being at the motherland resorts during the october 10K, the parks did not surge with peeps but had shortened hours.
dhs closed at 6 pm on a saturday.

let me go back and check out the 12th for youse.

one current thread: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3188886
will be back.

Easywdw predicts crowd levels of 5 out of 10 on wdw marathon weekend. http://www.easywdw.com/jan14-v2.jpg

Here's what he says about the marathon:

"The Disney World Marathon is held January 9 – 12, 2013. While the Marathon doesn’t increase lines at the rides much, it does cause a lot of congestion in and around the Parks on the mornings of January 11th and particularly January 12th."

http://www.easywdw.com/category/disneybest/besttime/

That sounds pretty much like everything else I've heard about the marathon.

josh predicts crowds of 8 for that sat and sun.

because of that large wdw crowd expected, i made my ressie for the darkside before this all happens.

i'll be long gone before the crowds hit at wdw.

i have not read anything in the past threads or current threads that the masses will all be going to the darkside that weekend to avoid the marathoners.

if the weather is good, UO can have a busy saturday/sunday in that time period.
but, that happens any weekend when weather is great.

i always swore i would never do orlando in january.
now that has changed, i have been reading any thread anywhere about january weather and crowds at all the parks....

going on your dates keisha, you should be avoiding the tours, and the hp gala at the end of the month.
there are plenty of conventions going on at the onsite hotels in january but that won't impact the parks.

just go early each weekend day, you know the drill.
zig when others zag.

Not sure how the Disney marathon will effect it, but I can tell you the Tour groups were out in FULL force.Thank god for express pass , it was easy to avoid them with it

when a see a tour flag at any park I typically do an about-face, they are a royal pain.

mac thanx for the link, I don't subscribe to touring plans one and the free dates aren't out for Jan yet.

after reading how crowded it gets in WDW area, glad we cancelled the AoA LM rooms, just wish he had moved up the road to U;)

Sorry to piggy back off your thread but similar question only for the week prior. I'm thinking of going to Universal from the 5th-8th January and am trying to price the worth of staying onsite for the Express pass. The difference between on/off site is looking to be $500 all up (or $170 when divided by 3 people).

Will the crowds around my dates mean we should stay onsite for the Express pass?
