January and cash room questions

I am thinking of taking a long weekend in January with my DD. Specificallly thinking of Jan 9 - Jan 12th.

I have heard that certain times in January can be busy so is the weekend that I am planning on going a busy time? Also, since I have all my points tied up for my big 2010 trip in May how do I go about getting a cash room with the dvc discount?

That's marathon weekend. The only places that had studio accommodations left that weekend were OKW and SSR, but that was using points. I'm not sure if they have rooms specifically for non-DVC or DVC cash stays set aside. It might be a bit more busy that weekend as opposed to the following weekend.

I will definately avoid that weekend so thanks for that information. How is MLK weekend? Is it ususally busy then?

Note that Marathon weekend does not really mean overwhelming crowds in the parks. We have been there then and parks were easy to deal with. It is more than many other times in January but still off-season. MLK is a busy period (few days before to couple after) and the most crowded period in January except for first 3 to 4 days of Janaury which are still Christmas type crowds.
