January 3, 2011 - 5 night Bahamas Sailing

We are all happy your will be cruising with us.

:goodvibes

I second that! I will bet you become addicted to cruising DCL like most of us have :) this cruise is sure to be the first of many.

Hey, what is everyone doing about swimming in the cold water at Castaway Cay? Anyone have or getting wet/dry suits? It's going to be pretty hard to keep DD on the shore because the water will be too cold!

You know, I never even thought about that... I was thinking for some reason it would be warm weather over there... :(

I am hoping and praying for warm!!! I won't be in the water much but I do hope it'll be warm enough to lay on the beach in my swimsuit (without a sweatshirt!)

I am hoping for nice warm weather...but then coming from Canada it will be warmer than what we have here no matter what. But seeing as we have signed up for a sting ray adventure, it would be lovely to not turn into an ice cube while we are in the water.

Oh man!!! I would have made it if the cut off date had been set for the 15th or 20th!! Understnd having the cut off date earlier, since it is the Holiday season and all, but I hate it that my boys will miss out! :sad1: There's no chance we could slip in and be added at the last minute? I'm not usually one to beg, but just thought the whole experience seems especially fun for the little guys. This is our first ever cruise. We actually booked our cruise at the end of Sept/first of Oct, but I am only just now finding the disboards. My DH (FloridaDad) and I have been trying to catch up on all we have missed...there is a lot to read here! Great info for us newbies.

Here's an idea... even though you may not "officially" make it on the FE list you could still put out an FE on your fish and post your room number here for those of us who can still deliver something for your family so your boys can feel included and enjoy the FE at least on a smaller scale. Just food for thought.

P.S. Not trying to make anyone who is already done feel bad or slighted... Rather, for anyone who can this would be a nice way to coordinate gifts for the family without random PM's. We just want to see everyone have a good time and enjoy this cruise.

I purchased shorty wet suits at www.samsclub.com - the kids were about $28. If the kids need it, they will use them. If they do not need it, I will return them. Shipping is free and they also have Fed Ex Ground come to your house to pick up them if you do not want them - no cost.
I figured if I got them they would not need them, if I did not have them - I would be kicking myself for not having them!
We live in GA and are suppose to have light flurries today - we usually never see snow but last year we did have 3 snow falls.
Has anyone seen what the weather is in Castaway Cay or Nassua this week?

If you do decide to put something up...I think some little elves could drop a few things in it for you. :)

Thanks. I remember seeing wetsuits at Sam's Club & BJs this summer, we didn't have this cruise booked then. I will take a look.

I can tell you DD is not allowed to even put a toe into freezing cold water (then get out to colder air temps) - because she wouldn't be able to stop with a toe! :scared1: I will not risk her getting sick. Don't know what it is currently there, but here (Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater), the poor Gulf of Mexico is in the low 60s, and will probably only dip colder in the next 2 weeks. The cold front is coming thru today to us also.....DH & I joke that apparently we didn't move far enough south!!! We also joke that when we lived in Ohio on Lake Erie, that 72 degrees was consider warm like bath water. boy, were we C-R-A-Z-Y :rotfl:

Truthfully, we didn't book this cruise with the intentions of swimming at CC at all, but I thought perhaps a wetsuit might allow DD to get a little beach swimming time so that she won't cry......It's hard to tell a little kid that they can see the ocean, and see other people in it, but they can't go in....Incomprehensible to an almost 4 year old

It is snowing in GA. No accumulation but snow! I pray that we have nice weather on our trip!

Wow, we may take you up on the offer! :) By the way, does each gift say who its from? We may want to go ahead and just get some FE gifts ready to pass out for the fun of it and to teach our boys more about giving whether they get something in return or not. ;) Is there a thread that gives guidelines to the whole FE idea?

FD

There are many threads on FE - check in the FAQ sticky first. I will bet that ssanders79 can help you out with the links (he's my DH) :goodvibes

Yes, usually the FE gifts do say who they are from. For our Aug cruise, we printed some return address labels that said "The Sanders Family" and it also it had our real names with our DIS board names underneath, and I think it also said Tampa, FL as well. We will do the same thing this time. Last time, we included a postcard from Tampa with each FE gift (people like getting something from where people are from), but I didn't do that this time.....

I agree... we didn't take it as being mean. Now that we understand how much work goes into it, we completely understand. It just gives us something to look forward to on the next cruise... lol

Our group will be glad to include you in the exchange as I have extra "cabin" gifts and a small treat for the kids - We have 3 exchange groups in my group - so that would be a start to your gifts

email me at akblair@charter.net with your family info (remember to include the kids ages) and I will send you back all ours. This is also true to anyone else who is a late comer.

Krisann

I'll add the names to the full list Monday morning for those who want to include them. I understand that some people are done and that is ok, but I see no reason not to add them to the list.

Hello fellow cruisers. My family will be joining you all on the Jan 3 cruise. We are super excited as this is our 1st cruise ever!!! I have a few questions that I was thinking that maybe you guys could answer.

1. Are you allowed to stay with your children in the kids club?

2. Where can I find out what the different dining rotations are for the Magic?
We are trying to decide if we want to request a certain rotation or since it is our 1st cruise just go with the flow.

3. I know that you are limited to 2 pieces of luggage but is there a size restriction for the luggage? I have looked for this info everywhere and can't seem to locate it.

These are all I can think of right now but I am sure that I will have some in the near future. Thanks in advance for helping this newbie out!:thanks:

Yes, you can stay with your child in the kids club.

You can find more details on the dinning rotations on the DCL FAQ Sticky. For your first cruise I would just go with the flow.

You can bring as much luggage on as you want as long as it will fit in your stateroom. The 2 bag rule is a result of the airlines. Most people must fly so this tends to be the rule of thumb, but in reality it is not the case.

Hi All

We will shortly be travelling to US and wont have internet access out there. Soo.... what is the plan for the meet? :santa:
