Hello all. I've been over at the Cruise Critic boards for the last 3 months, hoping to meet people who are on our cruise. I don't know how I missed that this entire community existed until 3 days before we leave!

By way of introduction, my name is Julie and I will be traveling with a huge family group - my mother, my brother and his family, and my husband and our two kids. I have a 9 year old son and an 11 year old daughter. We're from the Chicago area.

Can anyone tell me if they are strict about letting someone 9 years old into Oceaneer Lab? After looking at the Navigators that were posted, it seems like the Oceaneer Lab activities are more suited to my son than the Oceaneer Club for the younger kids. I apologize if it's been discussed already, but I'm at work in a class right now and am trying to be sneaky about this. :rolleyes1

I hope to get a chance to meet some people. We're very friendly, as a whole, and I particularly would love to see my kids make some new friends.

Welcome! I was also on cruise critic for awhile, but there wasn't much of any interest there. I believe that children can travel between the Club and the Lab regardless of age, so that shouldn't be a problem.
If you look for people with green wristbands or necklaces, you will know it's this Dis group. Everyone is very friendly and ready to have a GREAT week!!

"only lost 13lbs"????? That is awesome! Congrats and remember, a target is just that...a target. How you feel is more important!

Can't wait to see all of you at the terminal/lounge!!!

Welcome! So glad you found us before the cruise!

Thanks for the welcome! I will definitely be looking for your green bling and will probably be spending some quality time on these boards now that I've found them.

This is technically our first Disney Cruise, although my husband and I used to work at Walt Disney World back in the 90's when they had an affiliation with The Big Red Boat and we went on that (at a steep Cast Member discount). We chose Disney because after working there for a few years, we know we can count on a great, high-quality experience.

I'm very relieved to hear that my Jack can go to the Oceaneer Lab if he wants. It seems to be more up his alley.

I will definitely be back later to check out people's posts and find out more about you all (but not in a creepy, stalkery way)and then probably to ask questions of veteran cruisers.

Nice to meet you all!

Welcome! :) I have a 9 year old son who is signed up for both the club & lab. They are able to do both. I haven't been able to find green bracelets/beads that others are wearing but hopefully us & our sons can meet up. He'll be happy that there is another boy his age on the cruise! :)

:welcome: Better late then never...

Are you talking Ocean Lab or are you thinking The Edge? Which used to be called the Quest. Because you son is the right age for the Oceaneer club/lab. The Edge is the tween club for 11-13 .

We are hoping to meet up at the terminal and or Promande Lounge at 3:00 on the day we sail.

I will have a 10 year old daughter on this cruise that will be doing the Lab. Also have a 13 year old boy.

hi julie!

i have an 11 year old daughter too (katie) and a 7 1/2 year old daughter (charlotte). katie is excited to be in the Edge. through these boards katie met another girl (well, the moms met first!) and they have been corresponding through email for a few months now. i think it's probably too close for your daughter to start doing that now, but tell us her name and katie will be on the lookout!
my husband and i will be with my parents. my brother was supposed to be on the trip too with his wife and two little kids, but right before new years my SIL fell and broke her ankle. it was a really bad break and she needed surgery. then, last week, she wobbled b/c a crutch fell and she fell again and this time broke her wrist! so she's a mess and they're not going to be joining us. thank goodness for insurance!

When I was looking at the posted Navigators over at Tommytown or Timmytown's blog, it looked like the Oceaneer Lab and Oceaneer Club were different and had different activities, and I think they were listed separately on the Disney website, so I was confused about the age requirements for those. So, no, I figured out that the Edge was for the tweens and I don't think he needs to be in THAT club, bugging those kids! :goodvibes

Thanks! My daughter's name is Riley. If I can figure it out tonight sometime, I'll try to post a family photo or something. Riley's very friendly but is nervous about not meeting someone to hang out with - you know how kids are. It might be intimidating too, if the kids on board have already gotten acquainted before we even sail! For Jack, I don't think it's as big of an issue. He seems to jump right in to anything and not really be at all self conscious.

Oh my gosh, sorry to hear about your SIL! What a run of bad luck. I've (knock on wood) never broken a bone in my life. I can't even imagine!

:welcome: Julie, Jamie and families. Looking forward to meeting everyone on Saturday.:woohoo: This is mine and DH first cruise as well.

I have 3 more hours of work tommorrow morning and then my focus will be totally packing and all the last minute stuff. Took the cat to the sitters tonight. Starting to seem OH so rea!!!!l :yay::yay:

Woo hoo! Anything better than this very cold nasty weather is good to me! I don't care how warm, hope to not have much rain.

Hope the next two work days go by faster than the first two! :rotfl:
DH & DS taking the hamster to SIL tomorrow. DS & I take the dog to my parents after work tomorrow. DH has a basketball game Thur night. Got to pamper myself tonight. DH & DS got me a gift certificate for a manicure & pedicure. Splurged & got acrylics with a french manicure. I'm super excited! My boss things I'm going to explode with excitement before vacation. She said that's keeping me from getting too stressed. :rotfl:

Hope everyone has a safe trip! :wizard:

Left the office for the last time before vaca today. My inbox was empty and I'm hoping I can keep it that way during our all-day meeting tomorrow. Then, I'm off, off, off!!!! Thursday will be last minute packing and then we leave the house at 4am on Friday....woohoo!

Ok, well, I'm late in the game and I'm not sure if I'll be able to make the Promenade meet-n-greet, but I hope I figure out who some of you are! I noticed a few Michiganders on here, and that adventure_woman is from Kalamazoo, a place where I have lots of family and have spent a lot of time!

Just as an FYI, (as I have seen that people are posting to help with recognition, etc.) here's our group demographic:
Me, 43 & DH 39
DD 11 & DS 9
My brother, 52 and his wife (age unstated, ha)
Their kids: sons aged 18, 21, 23
My nephew's girlfriend, 21, and son 26 months

Happy traveling, everyone. I am keeping my fingers crossed for no snow at Midway!

Got the last of the wash in , my packing is almost done. Well do the dress clothes tomorrow morning.

The kids are pretty excited since there last day of school was today. Well have to send my son into school before we go because he forgot to bring home his running shoes. He would look pretty funny walking around in boots at Universal and on the boat.

I got my nails and toes done tonight too. Have to make them pretty for the sandals I get to wear in the winter. :cool1:

Hoping to head out for Buffalo but noon tomorrow.

We had weird weather the last two days. Yesterday it was so cold -26 and today we were at -3 and it felt like spring. :lmao: Who knows what tomorrow will bring. Hopefully it will be nice and warm getting of the plane tomorrow night but the forecast says it will go down to 52.
