January 29, 2011 - 7 Day Eastern - WOOHOO!!

Its funny - all the people who go to the HP Theme Park all come back raving about the Butter Beer. I have to try this drink!!!!

We are not going to Harry Potter so we will be missing out on the butterbeer but it sounds yummy. I googled it and there is a recipe and even the adult version with a little rum. Have to give it a try:laughing:

what a great idea to get the recipe - lol

On our first (and to date, only) Universal trip, DW & I went on Hulk about midway through our full day of a 1 1/2 day trip. It pretty much did us in

We spent a couple hours back in the room and then wandered back to CityWalk for dinner, but Hulk was pretty much the end of our Theme Park experience that day...luckily it was pretty much the last thing on the to-do list. That's not to say I won't try it if/when we go back (we really want to see WWoHP too...just not enough time off :(), but if we go on it again, it'll probably be the last thing we have planned for the day.

good advice - i will put it at the end of the itinary

which hotel are you using? are you leaving your car at the hotel for the 9 days?

We are spending the night in Buffalo as well. OUr flight leaves at 9 though.

We used priceline and got a hotel close to the airport with shuttle service for about $50

Hey there - we are flying together - we are on the 10am out of Buffalo as well.

Means we will be on the road around 6am which isnt fun! I am playing with the idea of just staying at a hotel in Buffalo the night before - what are you doing?

great we will get to meet before the cruise! Im thinking we will stay the night before in Buffalo, you just never know what the weather will be like and Buffalo can get alot of snow it seems. we have stayed at the quality inn across from the airport a couple of times , may stay there again, nothing fancy but it is clean had no issues before, not bad pricewise they have a pool and hot tub. Its never been at all crowded on previuos trips , pretty much had the pool area to ourselves. also have stayed at the millenium but thats a whole other story, won t be staying there again! how about you , do you know where you will be staying ?:thumbsup2

Yes Buffalo weather can be very unpredictable. It can not be any worse than the last 2 trips we have taken and left in terrible weather. :confused3 Just luck I guess. We are not flying out until late Friday afternoon as we have concert tickets on Thursday nite that I just could not give up to Brad Paisley:lovestruc That will be the official start to our vacation:woohoo:

I think we should have an Informal Meet and Greet in the Terminal for anyone who happens to come early -say at 1130 by some recognizable feature (I will let someone else suggest as i havent been there in 3.5 years). That way we can all say HI while we are waiting.

We will probably get there just after 10am

Well, you all sold me. I will be wearing a D on my back!! :rotfl: I am pretty certain I will be wearing something disney related but I couldn't tell you what as I haven't purchased it yet so look for the D! :cool1:

Not booked yet - but looking at Best Western for $76/night - need to call them tomorrow to confirm that I can park my car there for almost 2 weeks at no charge. We think we stayed there before - pictures look familiar. If its the place I am thinking - it was nothing special - but the people were nice, beds were comfortable and the shuttle was ontime.

We literally will arrive on the Wednesday night sometime after 8pm and will head to the airport around 830am - so I just need something comfortable and close to the airport!

Anyone been there before?

I cant figure out the Poll Thing so lets do it this way........ people can vote by replying or PMing me.

Option 1. Meet at the Terminal at 11:30am
Option 2. Meet on the ship at 3:00 (before the mandatory lifeboat drill)
Option 3. Meet on the ship after the late dinner around 10pm
Option 4. Meet on Sunday in the morning say around 11am
Option 5. Meet on Sunday around noon for lunch
Option 6. Meet on Sunday in the afternoon sometime - say around 2pm

People can vote for more than 1 option if they are OK with 2 or 3 options. That way we will know if there are some options that definately are not liked.

Also - let me know if there is another option that I havent thought of yet

The votes are in - Final Count is:

Option 1 - 3
Option 2 - 4
Option 3 - 1
Option 4 - 7
Option 5 - 9
Option 6 - 9

There has been a lot of chatter (including me) to have an Informal DIS meet at the terminal on Saturday morning which I think is great - but it sounds like most people want to wait for Sunday to do the Official Meet and Greet.

The Lunch time is tied for the most votes but someone brought up the point that it may be hard to meet over lunch as we would be at our own tables. Any other ideas for an early afternoon meeting place?

I dont know if people woudl like this idea or not - but maybe we can meet at one of the planned family activities - that way we get to know each other but its also a bit of fun. I looked at some recent Eastern Navigators - and here are a couple of activities that could work (I recognize that these might not be the same events still - we would have to reconfirm with more recent schedules) - I just want to know if people like this idea or not:

- Pictionary at 11:15
- Mr Toads Wild Race at 12:15
- Fun in the Sun at Goofs Pool at 1:15
- Family Magic Quest at 2pm

wow, this has been a very busy thread. Cruise is so close now I can not wait to get away from all this snow!!!

Hi!!! Does that include parking for the time you are there? I wouldnt mind trying priceline and this would be the perfect time for just one night.

We are the same the next night, so you will head to the airport at 8:30 for a 10am flight? I was planning on taking the 8am shuttle....I hate being there so early but I am nervous going any later. You still get time to check in and go through security with no stress? I would love to do that.....:yay:

I will go with the majority since I have no kids, I am not working around anyone but my big kid...but he will just go with the flow........or else.......:lmao:

Have you flown from the Buffalo airport before? I have several times....it is quite small compared to Pearson. An hour ahead is plenty of time. I have got there and security is just sitting around as there is no one in line.....most times there will be no more than 15-20 people ahead of you....probably the longest wait I ever had was 10 minutes. As well, Its such a small airport that it takes no time to walk around.

Dont forget you have gone through Customs at the Border.......and if you are flying Southwest you will have already printed your boading pass at home (as you do that the day before). So you just need to hand in your luggage, go through security and then find your gate. Pretty quick.

That is why I love flying out of Buffalo.....my favourite story of this airport was one time I drive my neice down as she was flying to Florida. we got held up leaving home so by the time we pulled into the airport, i was a little panicked. We went running up to the gate to check our bags about 35 minutes before the flight was to leave saying "sorry we are late, can we still get on the flight to Orlando" and the lady was great - got on the walkie talkie and started asking them if the doors were still open and woudl wait for us when she asked for our ticket info. She then looked at me and told the Walkie Talkie guy that it was OK. She thought I was talking about the flight that was leaving in 10 minutes. She said - no problem for your flight just go right through. I just started laughing.

But you will be kid-free so it doesn't matter!!!

isn't it funny how your sense of time changes when you have kids?? Without kids - show up at airport too early - no problem just pull out book and read. With kids - anxiously watch clock because keeping toddlers entertained for an additional hour before an hours long flight is stressful. And simply keeping an eye on 3 kids at once is impossible so fears of loosing child in airport make time crawl by.

Show up late without kids - little rushed, but still get off shoes, throw bag on belt - run to gate. With kids - TOTAL CHAOS - get off 5 pairs of shoes, try and keep eye on toddler while carrying baby, and collapsing stroller, diaper bag, toy bag, car seat, etc to load on belt. Grab two kds, scream at third to run and help, pushing stroller ladenned with too much stuff and try and drag/run everything to gate.:rotfl:

When DH and I travel alone, we feel young again as we can fit everything we need into a rolling carryon, or better yet, check one bag and carry nothing on board but a purse and a book. With kids, I always feel like a travelling caravan. And we really only add a stroller, car seat and diaper bag and two oldest carry back packs, but it seems like I get to schlep everything!!!

Yeah I know but I still hate waiting...:lmao:

Oh god I remember 1998, we went to Florida with the 5 boys, my youngest was 16 mths, so he was free. So we flew from Toronto. On the way home we were at the airport 5 hrs early because I had to get that bulk head seat with my very active 16 mth old and no seat.......:scared1: So the boys entertain him for a while, until they get bored then we go through all the usual, oh yeah we were first in line...:thumbsup2. So I get the bulk head... and give Jordan (16mth) my seat cuz by then he is pretty mellow and wants to listen to his brothers disman...so he is a prince the whole trip so are the rest of them...I sit on the floor basically. Now DH is another story...he was terrified of flying back then (now he is just scared) so he did not budget from his seat so I did all the taking care of the boys....at the end of the flight a handful of people came over to me and complimented me on how well my boys behaved and how good I had things under control.....so when we were walking out my dh says to me ..... and they were probably saying "And you sir were a pure *****"....he sat glued to his chair didnt talk didnt move.....my then 7 yr old said..."Dad you can open your eyes now" and you could hear chuckles from people around us......Oh god what a trip...oh yeah and to boot we flew through a hurricane in the Carolinas.........:scared1:

We would be fine w/ a Meet-and-Greet at anytime, but I do like the idea of doing them the day we board. Like after the Muster drill or meet up somewhere before/during/after Sail Away Party. Just my 2 cents!

[added to enter ] 1600!!!

Also, I was thinking of having extra copies of the FE List for those who might forget to pack them...so it'd be nice to give those out 1st day!!!
